2 similar knives(strider, ZT) worlds apart in price...why?

OP, is that a genuine Strider, or one of the higher end Chinese clones? Reason I ask is the overmarked blade, almost shiney hardware, and smaller thumb opening which are all things Mick has advised to watch out for. It's been awhile so I can't say for sure, but there are a couple videos on how to tell much more precisely.

haha no its real, straight from GP knives. What does overmarked blade mean?

From handling both knives at a store, strider seems to be more precise if that makes sense.

ZT seema like tyco building blocks if strider was lego.

both seem very high in price for their build quality.

Strider did a good job building a brand for the size of their shop.

Less knifes sold means a little more exclusivity. Also by having a high price, some guys flock to that, and love to pull out a higher priced knife to out do their buddy(us guys are funny like that, lol).

We are lucky with our current makers, we can buy a knife from super cheap to outrageous.

Strider and ZT, they have been with us for years, and neither is going away soon.

I have many ZT 350 that my family uses camping, they are tough good cutting knifes. I'll have a Strider in my pocket soon, but my kids will still rock the ZT's camping,lol,......... Dad's.

I used to want a couple Striders so bad but just can't justify the price difference from other great blades. If I was going to spend that much it would probably be Crusader Forge Metro and hurry up and wait for it.

The question that I see isn't why does the strider cost more (small shop etc, sure) but why are people willing to pay double the price of the zt 0300?

Not a knock against expensive knives (xm18 currently in my pocket) but I personally don't see the value in the strider.
( I've handled one but not owned)

All jest aside (I couldn't help myself earlier, sorry!), I believe Strider was one of the first advertised hard use knives, to market, which actually held up under abuse. Originators who "walk the walk" get customer loyalty, especially in niche markets with relatively few legitimate competitors.

I believe there are a multitude of logical opinions in this thread. Am I the first to say buy, try, then keep whichever you personally like best? ;)

Go to Strider's website and try to find a folder that has either USA or the blade steel marked on it. If you bought it from GP it should be fine, just seems kind of weird as it has all the tells Mick Strider has warned of on the clones. Do you hapoen to know what size allen wrench your pivot is?

Both my DGG & CC have CPM154 and USA marked on the blade. That's normal. The ones to watch out for might have U.S.A and the addition of the Bos heat treat stamp. That's a dead giveaway.

I'm sorry but this sentence in reference to Strider made me laugh out loud. Go with the ZT.

The Strider SnG design alone is what got my attention and kept it. The design is so simple yet very strong; one piece G10 handle slab and nut & bolt construction.

Interesting comparison. I think there are massive differences between the two but both would probably handle anything that you would want to use a knife hard for. Price differences and what companies can charge has as much to do with economies of scale as others have mentioned as anything.

He already owns both...

Correct, at one time. I used to but I haven't had a Strider in a few years. I was just adding my perspective on where Strider got their customer base and loyalty. I could certainly be wrong.

I'm 110% in the ZT corner. I have at least 4? And I've owned over half of the line at one point or another. My favorite large hard use folder, currently, is the 0560. What a gem.

Personally, I haven't ever been able to beat the overall value of KAI products across their numerous brands.

The great thing about competion is that, at the end of the day, it always delivers us consumers a better overall value.

Just another interesting fact I'd like to throw in. Neither knife has been used at all so both have factory edges. The ZT came razor sharp, hair shaving, easy phone book paper slices and all that good stuff. Now although the strider's fit 'n finish and overall build quality seems absolutely top notch to me, the same can't be said for the ege. It came seriously dull, and I haven't sharpened or done anything to it so if anyone would like to see a vid of how dull it is let me know I'd be happy to show you. Anyone else with strider experience want to chime in on this? How sharp did your striders come? Are striders just not know for their factory edges or did I just get unlucky with this piece? Am thinking of sending it to strider to get it sharpened as I don't have any sharpening tools or anything at the moment...
