2" x 72" Belt Grinder kit $369.99

I'm still wading through pictures, adding comments, and making it sensible outside my head. So the instructions are yet to be finished.

Some kits went out last week, and more will go out this Friday.

The platens have changed a little. The center pivot for the multi platen is 1/2 inch. The standard platen now has a relief to allow the angle to be changed.

The final overall picture shows what it looks like with motor in place. It also shows the tool rest holder the same size as the the tool arm. The MAP arm should be usable with this design.

This is the entire kit. The piece with all the pieces that get remove will be split in 2 pieces. It will make it easier for me to unload from the sheet. Otherwise, this shouldn't change from this revision.

First off it looks great, love the improvements. WHen you get caught up you should start a new thread announcing these are for sale.

Jamie, you may or may not know this but I designed and am currently the only one authorized to sell the MAP Arm.

The MAP arm will NOT work with this grinder in the position shown in the pics. It will not work positioned under the tooling arm. It needs to be on the left side of the tooling arm.

I am currently redesigning this grinder to work with the MAP Arm. I would be happy to discuss the design with you if you are interested in making the MAP Arm work with this grinder. Please contact me Through my website

Thanks

Michael,

Thanks for the posting. I know very little about the MAP arm, so any information provided is appreciated.

I'll send you an email.

Sounds and looks great. I'm looking forward to the kit. I'll post pics of it once I get it pieced together. Jamie and Chris, you guys did an excellent job!!

I was pretty sure that Michael's MAP arm wouldn't work from that position, but if I get a MAP, I'm going to mount it on my KMG anyway :D. So as it is, I'm going to build my own work rest for this grinder. Thanks again, guys!!

looks like 6 more pieces of steel and longer bolt is what it would take. That is if it just needs to run along side the Tool arm
But that's just my take.

I'm sure you all will figure it out.

I'm looking forward to seeing the design worked out to fit that.

as I had thought some time ago, some additional spacers
and additional receiver side plate would be all it takes.
(same as your origional parts, just more...keeping the design simple, with as few parts as possible - especially compared to the 1 inch design...)

I'm not sure why Polar.... would think that this would be flimsy... 1/2 steel is pretty stout.

1/2 in steel is stout, but with everything (including the MAP arm) riding so far off to the side, it didn't give me a good feeling of stability.

The other issue is the bar for the MAP Arm, It sticks out past the back of the receiver. I cant tell for sure from the pictures but it looks like it might hit the motor

something I wasn't thinking of is the lock down knob.
Move it to the top I suppose

If you added the 6 pieces of steel put the lock downs on top you could use the bottom opening that was meant for the MAP arm as an ajustable stability leg.

IDK there I go thinking again. Sorry about that. I'm planning my own grinder out. Let me say you have helped me immensely with the design. Mine for sure isn't gonna be near as pretty to look at though

I was looking at that too,

but as far as I can tell, it looks as if it would hit the capacitor housing and not the motor itself.

If that is the case, then just giving the motor a 1/4 turn to put the capacitor towards the rear would take care of it.

???
but it's not clear in the pics if it will clear or not.

It depends on the motor. One of my motors would allow it to clear, while the other wouldn't. It would hit the capacitor on the one that doesn't.

Can you buy just the rotary platen? Not AM's MAP Arm, but the platen that comes with the kit?

I will be selling just the platens as well. The standard or the multi platen. They will be $20 apiece plus $10.20 shipping.

Everytime someone refers to the rotary platen, I think of the one with the belt that Beaumount metalworks sells.

Jamie

Me, too, Jamie. I've been lusting after one of those Beaumont rotary platens for a long time, ever since it was first devised and posted here on BF's. Adjustable convex grinds, smooth action, no belt bump, and less noise...I would be in grinder heaven. Maybe sometime this year....

I think your phrasing "multi-platen" is a better fit for this platen.

OK. With the Multi-Platen, are the holes pre-drilled and/or tapped, or is that something I would need to do? Are there pics of the Multi-Platen with contact wheels attached? I'm just trying to get an idea of how it works. Thanks.
