Hello guys

I am back, with my first thoughts and brief review (without pictures yet,as no photobucket set up at this moment)

As i was recently very busy, its been over 2weeks since i had this opportunity to hold in my hands this truly unique Himalayan Imports masterpiece made by kami Sher. After opening and revealing this secret, hidden inside of so awaited "triangle box",i can now fully comprehend and understand how beautiful and truly high quality khukuri is made by HI.Overal fit and finish of this massive chopper is done with excellent precision and to be honest, really left me speechless! I have never held in my hand any knife of this magnitude!!! Knife is actually longer, it is about to reach 21" in length, with extremely thick blade, razor sharp (as requested) zero ground convex edge,,,blade and edge itsself are made with detailed precision, mirror polished.Handle is so beautiful, that it really stands out and highlighting overal look of the knife, its shiny, polished buffalo horn black coloured but mixed with brown and white coloured horn colour on few spots, this make handle to be really rare and individual... Yellow brass fittings are very well made, tight and fits perfectly,so as overal feel of the handle is like tailor made into my rather large hands.Brass is also shiny and polished.

Scabbard/buffalo hide is made of top quality and intact material/leather piece is made perfectly, there is simply no single spot anywhere, which would be showing any sign of imperfection, its appearance even when looking into every detail is just perfect! Leather is stiched together tight and evenly all around on the back of sheath....Only drawback is,that heavy 20"CAK is slightly loose, while sheathed, blade is not fixed inside and is sliding from side to side inside the sheath,i guess, this can be fixed by inserting some material inside (piece of leather or so,,,maybe some of you may have idea of how to tighten the space inside)

What impress me very much too,is fit and finish of small utility knifes-Karda&Chakmak, compared to my previous khuks, these are made of robust, massive pieces of steel and also good chunks of buffalo horn, both are very sturdy and really nicely finished thick knifes,Karda is razor sharp, well made,so as Chakmak. Both have beautifully polished horn and fit perfectly and nicely in the sheath compartment.Chances of loosing them are very small as they are seating inside very tight...

Frog system is perfectly made, stiched, but with one drawback, for this heavy duty chopper its belt loop is made of thin leather strip,(thicker piece would be more appropriate),overal appearance of all knife and sheath,is simply flawless with extremly well made and mutually friendly composition of high quality, top notch materials....

20inch CAK from HI will really take your breath away,i would definitely and highly recommend to all those people, who fancy massive, thick blades and may think, they have a strong knife allready...i can guarantee you guys, this knife from HI will quickly make you reconsider of what term "strong knife" really means.....

P.S.photographs and some practical tests are yet to come, thank you for your time.

Just to let you know. if the "frog" strap which is attached to the belt loop is too thin, send auntie an email, kindly request a frog, with a belt loop made of thicker leather, and she can easily remedy that issue. I had the same issue a year ago, and she sent me a thicker one straight away.

Glad you enjoy the blade, and understand now why we all praise HI highly with their craftsmanship, and customer service.

Thank you Cul,there is no need to do that,as there this blade will not be subject to any heavy wear or use,i will keep it more or less as a showpiece and collector item, this belt loop can be also easy reinforced by piece of leather attached,if necessary.Even as it is,it would withstand enough time of wear, which will not be a case for sure....Yes,it is amazing blade and the best chopping tool i ever held in my hand...This thing would chopp easy everything it will land on,i didnt try yet,but will do in short future,i believe heat treatment on these blades is also superb as its overal look and feel too.

Since Sher made it, and he's a master of producing "large" blades, you can pretty much assume his heat treat of this blade is going to be "spot on" perfection. He does superb work, and his craftsmanship is undeniable.

This blade is absolutely stunning, anytime i am home,i can not let my sight of this masterpiece....if i could give it mark on scale 1-10,i would give it 11!!! It's mind blowing.... When i was confused over delivery time and Mrs.Yangdu Martino gave me options to wait,or not,,,,i am glad i choose to wait! Its very much worth it,so far most precious piece i have on my collection.......Edge on it is unbelievable precisely made.I have read stories, this thing can withstand really just about everything...

There've been a number of forum postings in the past about how to tighten a loose-fitting scabbard. The best one I've seen involves folding back the inside edge of the leather at the mouth of the scabbard, gluing a thin piece of wood or leather inside the mouth, testing the tightness, then refolding and gluing the leather edge.

There's a more detailed description of the process somewhere in this forum (within the past couple years), but it would take some searching to find it. I don't recall who posted it, but it might have been ndoghouse.

Thank you for sharing, sounds like an absolute beauty of a knife :) the love affair between a man and his knife is really something. Can't wait to see pictures :o good luck with fixing the sheath too, really easily done with the help of kami dog here ;) http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/s...tting-scabbard-sheath?highlight=fixing+sheath

Thanks Dan,yes you are right about this bond!:) and to be honest, this is kind of the knife, that no pictures can do enough justice to it,however old saying is "picture is painting thousand words",,,,there is far more, when it comes to this particular model 20"CAK from Sher.It have its own soul given to it,something hard to describe when you look at it,or hold this in your hand, its far greater than just the tool, there is magic to it.(little bit loose sheath is really only a minor imperfection, that i am not going to interfere with,as wish to keep all intact in original form, keeping the box also and letter about warranty and beautiful miniature khukuri "letter badge" pin, that Mrs Yangdu Martino also send to me.) My son will become its master, once i am gone:), this knife will last probably thousand years,if not more! Have clean it with oil number of times allready, swiping fingerprints off it always after playing with it,love the gloss shiny finish on it,however natural patina will surely develop over the years i think, which can be sanded off with high grid sandpaper...(looking forward to share pictures with you all,i am not sure of how to post these pictures here, dont know if photobucket need to be set on same email as bladeforum account in order to post pictures here,i think this is explained in forum's threads somewhere)

Glad to hear you are a happy customer. A couple of my sheaths had thin leather straps as well, its easily remedied. I cant wait to see pictures!

Great news, CAK arrived safe .

Congratulations SeriousbladeNo1. I am so happy things worked out well for you and that you got a great blade.

That Sher CAK just might make you a HIKV victim if you aren't careful :D Just handling it while sitting in your living room can even cause you to discover you NEED another hehe.

You know, Seriousblade, now that you mention it, my 18" Super CAK and my Cherokee Rose both have a single piece of leather for the frog, while my 18" WW2 has a double piece that I assume is the standard "super-frog". Not that I mind.

....(looking forward to share pictures with you all,i am not sure of how to post these pictures here, dont know if photobucket need to be set on same email as bladeforum account in order to post pictures here,i think this is explained in forum's threads somewhere)

Another option is to become a Bladeforums Gold Member. Currently you are a Registered Member.

As a Gold Member you can upload photos directly from your own computer, into original postings and replies to other postings. Then you wouldn't need photobucket, and the posting process is simpler.

You have to pay a bit each year to be a Gold Member. Somewhere on this web site you can find where to sign up and how much it costs. Maybe someone else can point you to the exact place.

I didnt know this? That would be much better. I always hated the fact that if my account ever ceased then every pic i have ever posted would disappear. Ill have to check into that myself. Always good to read the destructions:D

Someone drilled a pretty rough hole for lanyard i guess. I put an aluminum ferrule there to match the pins. Now it is a lanyard hole.
