I'll be there. I live about an hour 1/2 from Novi. Maybe in the next year or so I can get a table:)

Hey TMAC...

Cool...

Hey isn't it your birthday this year???

Yaaaaaaa I think it is !!! :)

I'll buy dinner, as long as its the big yellow fish behind the glass.. LOL

Man....................... Gotta remember NOT to mix my medication and alcohol again.... LMAO....

I'll be set up there with a bunch Bowies, Stingers, and other goodies. See ya' there, Eric - this is getting to be an annual Sheath Summit for you and me. Do you plan to take more incriminating photos?

Hey Mike....

You mean like this one ??? :)

S.Shepherd:
Good, looking forward to seeing you there, I'd like to see your knives.

Normark:
Damn boy, you're already causing trouble I see. Ah, no, it's not my birthday, look at my profile. :) You, on the other hand are old as dirt and can't tell anybody it's yours.

You can buy dinner anytime, just stay away from the fish. For that matter you better stay away from all small animials.

Keep taking your meds just stay away from the pops. Boy, I think I better bring an extra set of cuffs this year. Hey, watch how you treat Mr. Sastre, that boy can pull a Bagwell out from nowhere so fast it's scary.

Looking forward to seeing you and Jeff. You going to help me spend my money this year?

Mike:
I'll be talking to you, I need to talk to you about some ROS and Keating stuff. Always nice to check out your fine work too. I think I'm in the market for a Stinger sheath.

Mongo:
Novi is about 60-65 miles east of Jackson, about an hour drive, if you go the speed limit. From Jackson you can take 94E to M14E to 275N to 96W or 94E to 23N to 96E, which might be a little better drive.

See ya there,
Tom

TMAC...

LOL..

I'll try and behave....

As for dinner..

I'm not buying dinner if you are buying stuff from that Sastre fellow...:)

ttyle

Eric...

Ahw, crap. I guess Mike will have to buy dinner.

Tell Jeff if you get out of hand it's his fault. Oh, tell him he better have some folder designs with him as well, or he's buying dinner.

Tom

I vote for "troublemaker" buying dinner as a way to keep the peace. At least he hasn't shown the "made in" picture, yet.

Hey Guys..

Ohh Great..
There goes the knife buying budget..:)

As far as that "Made In China" sticker I found on the back of one of your sheaths,,, well it unfortunately didn't turn out and was all blury.....

Now I can't even find the blury picture..:(

Don't mean to sound ignorant, but is this show primarily for custom knives, or are common production knives (Spyderco, Benchmade)also sold there? I only live 10 min. from Novi and have never heard of this show...I would like to go.

Thanks

I'm going! It's a 6 hour drive but it's as close to Northern Ontario that a knife show of this size is ever going to get :D

AllKIllaNoFilla:
Yep, you will get your fill of production knives...you should be able to find Spydies, Bechmade, Microtech, CRKT, Chris Reeve, Kabar, Ontario, Buck, Case and much more. Well worth coming out.

4 s ter:
Great! Have a safe trip. I'm sure the show will be worth your wild. Quite a few Canadian makers cross the border for the trip, couple of my favorites.

Looking forward to seeing everyone. Look me up, I'll be walking the floor Friday night and Saturday all day. I'll be wearing a name tag... Tom Maciak (Tmac).

Here's another tip.... The expo center charges around $5 for parking that's on top of the fee to get in. So, if you want to keep a little more of your hard earned money, you can park accross Novi road, behind the Boston Market in the strip mall parking lot. It's really not that much further of a walk.

Take care,
Tom

What generally are the prices like at knife shows as compared to say internet dealers? Will there be good deals to be had, or are the prices not as competitive as on the 'net? I know that it all will vary, but what generally is the case? Either way I'll be there; just wondering how much money to bring.:)

Thanks,

Bucky

Bucky:
Generally you will find the majority of the dealers to be around the same $$ as internet dealers, and some are internet dealers. You will find some a little higher, when you count in what you pay for shipping you might be breaking out even with them. And some are a little higher, but if they have something rare, then it might be worth picking up. There is always a table out there (can't remember which dealer) who has CRKT and Benchmade at a steal, there hasn't been a show I haven't bought something from their table. The best strategy for a show is one, know what you want (if you're looking for something specific) and know price you're will to pay (as I'm sure most on this forum will know). Two, walk the whole floor first and make a note on who has what for what $$ you are looking for. Then, go to the table that has what you're looking for at the best price. I've gotten stung before from buying something early and seeing it cheaper a few rows down. The best thing at these shows is the ability to barging with production knives. All of these dealers know what other dealers have and will be willing to match or lower there prices to make a sale, it pays to shop. Also you can get a deal if you buy a couple items from a dealer, in some cases. As long as you are polite, respectful and handle there merchandise with care, most will work with you. If someone is a jerk, you should get charged double ;-) .

You can also get great deals from custom makers. John Greco usually has some outstanding deals on his fixed blades at the shows, you might be able to pick up a custom fixed blade for $50-$60, not bad. If you're there do yourself a favor and talk knives with John, he's on hell of a nice guy and quite generous with his information and time when talking about knives.

----------------------------------
Thoughts:
As a general rule and reminder for everyone, it's a good idea ask permission from a dealer or maker to handle their items. I think it sets a good initial impression. Also, if you're looking at knives, keep them over the table. I think I'm preaching to the choir on this one......Last year I saw a few people turn around with a knife in their hand into a crowded isle to show their buddies and knife and almost stuck a few people......nobody got hurt, but it just makes me cringe.

See ya there,
Tom

I'm planning on spending as much of Sunday there as possible! Looking forward to meeting you Mike!

Brian

Thanks for the heads up Tmac. I hadn't heard of this show yet and I would have been pissed at myself if I missed it. Novi is only about 20 minutes away!:D Probably be there Saturday. Will
