2005 Wolverine Knife Show - Novi, Michigan

Mike & Tom,

Thanks for the info. Give me a shout if you see a short (5'6"), gray-bearded old fart (49) with a handsome young man or two (15 & 10) with me.

Ron

One day left people...

If you're in michigan/ohio area and have a chance this Sunday, the Wolverine Show is a nice little gettogether.

I've been there three times in the past two days and still feel like i haven't seen quite all there was to offer or met everyone there was to meet.

I DID, however, pick up a beater SNG GenV for 200.00!!! Yea baby!!!!!!!

and i wanted to add, mike sastre (rivercity sheaths) is a great guy to talk to and we had a very entertaining conversation. also had a chance to see mick yurco's pieces, which were very impressive.

plenty of knives to go around, from POS to production to handmades, lots of steel and LOTS of damascus!!!

plus i got a chance to HANDLE all the knives i've been drooling over on the internet. let me tell you... the Benchmade skirmish and mini-skirmish are INCREDIBLE! same goes for the spyderco manix!

i need money. ;)

That was a fun show! I got to meet Normark, and say Mike Sastreis a interesting fellow, all of a sudden he whipped out a Ontario Knives Midnight Bowie that you couldnt even tell was there! Very cool. And my Dad cut himself with Mike Sastre's Cold Steel Voyager X2.

I held a Sebenza for the first time, and I can see what people love them! I also say a BM Skirmish and Mini Skirmish, they were nice. Also a CUDA Aftermath, and a $1200 Ed Fowler.

I ended up buying a Mick Yurco kerambit, it is very cool, and will make a great EDC. He even gave me a trainer for it! Very nice fellow, with lots of cool stuff.

Anyway, it was a good first show, and I am looking forward to others. I need to bring more money next time though!

Wow, I had a much better time this year than last year. I ended up getting a few handheld microscopes and a few v'nox parts. Some of those customs were amazing :D I really wanted a small Al Mar SLB type knife (I love the blade shape and size) but the one I really liked was over $300. I'm still not to that point yet...

I was the kid with the buzz cut, goatee and messy sprig of hair up front and I was wearing a green hooded sweat shirt. Maybe one of you saw me, if so let me know... Maybe I met someone.

yea sastre did the bowie thing to me too.

also was impressed with his spyderco matriarch rig. or civilian rig. i couldn't tell.

i was the asian guy. i think i was relatively easy to pick out from the crowd. :P

I enjoyed the show yesterday, course I'm a member. Sorry about the weather... we decided to have it later in the year, to miss the snow and ice and damn if there isn't a blizzard this weekend. Michigan weather...

Hey Guys...

Another Great Wolverine show...

I want to Thank Tmac again for his hospitality and time for arranging different dinners, and always there with a smile on his face.

Met a ton of people, some old some new, however somehow missed Chiro and Cpirtle. There were at least two other people there with injured hands..

Not sure what the fire at the hotel was all about, but I understand Mike Sastre was somehow involved..:)

Kim Breed was certainly an interesting fellow to chat with. Not only does he make nice knives, he's a hell of a nice person.

As far as the knives were concerned...

There were quite a few knives with prices ranging from MSRP to some quite excellent deals. I bought a matching set of cheapo Swords for my boy who was tickled pink.

I also noticed a real almost vacume of tactical heavy duty stuff.. I think there was only one Strider folder and one Busse NO-E that I could see...

I was initially looking for a HK folder, however I didn't spot any.

Anyway,, again I just want to Thank my American friends for their hospitality and friendship.

Eric...

LOL! I saw that SnG and I could barely open and close it because the lock was so tight. I was REALLY tempted, and as I was driving home I thought to myself (you know, you should've bought that knife...) but I passed it up. Oh well, another one will come around someday. That was in great shape except for the hack job the guy did on the ball detent!

Eric, I looked around for someone in a USN shirt, but I was there from about 9:00-12:30 on Saturday. Hung out with Kim and bought one of his knives, then we walked around and picked out some stag for a knife I'm making him. I was surprised by the number of dealers vs. makers, but it was a cool show. Hey, maybe next year you, Sean (laredo 7mm) and I can split a table 3 ways with our stuff?!

Howdy Gentlemen........ sorry for the late reply here.

The show was outstanding this year. Yes, it's always good IMHO. This show had quite a few new faces I haven't seen before which added more tables to the show, very nice to see that. The turn out was pretty good on Friday and Saturday, but the weather kept it lower in the afternoon on Saturday. The snow storm was a kick in the balls for the show on Sunday. By the time I got home we had 6" of wet snow on the ground, enough for my daughter and I to build a snow man. Then next day at the same time the snow was completely gone, except for the rotting carcass of a snowman. Next year the show will be a week later, hopefully will miss the snow......tornados, maybe.

A special thanks to Chad234 for providing us with lunch on Saturday. Top shelf guy. Always good to see you. Good luck on the BAR exam!! Also thanks from the rest of the Wolverine club organizers for sharing the rest of the feast.

Also a special thanks goes to Mickey, Joanne, and Mike my good friends whom make the show my primary reason for going, knives second.

Good to be able to meet and see some of you again.... Normark, jimi, Maestrodawg1, BigDaddy, Chris, Jim, Bud, Mudbone, Kim, Midget, Dr. Thor. The rest of you sorry we couldn't touch base.

BTW, the bowie that Sastre pulled out was no Ontario, that was an original Bagwell Hell's Bells, it doesn't get more high speed than that. He almost only got shot once by a LEO for whipping it out (the bowie that is).
Starting a hotel fire is a whole nother story. (Irresponsible
speculation by the author)

This year I walked away with a nice assortment of, uhmm, toys. They are as follows:
Mickey Yurco Kiridashi
"Mudbone" Jones Personal Forged Hatchet
"Mudbone" Jones Forging Education
Kim Breed small Tanto
Neck whip
Kelly McCann - Situational Offense DVD
James Keating - Bowie Basics DVD
James Keating - Backcut DVD
"Thanks All"

That pretty much tapped me out.

Hope to see more of you next year. The show should be in the brand new expo center about 1/2 mile west of the current location. As always I'll keep you posted.

Take care,
Tom

Tom,

Eric's always good for rumor by inuendo, and you ain't helpin' a bit. :) You guys just thought I slept thru the smoke alarms and Fire Dept. showing up - I actually had one of the new fangled non-smoking rooms, so thought it didn't apply to me. Switched to the Ontario during the show.

Oh, O.K., it must have been the smoke from the smoldering crack cooking in the microwave. I stand corrected. Good thing those new fangled rooms have non-burning sheets and Kevlar/Nomex comforters. :D Ain't I the smart ass.

I stand corrected on the bowie. I've never seen you carry anything but a Bagwell. But I thought you had it on sometime that weekend.

Take care,
Tom
(due for an ass kicking)
If Chris comes to my door I know what for.
