Eric,

Go for 6.50 domestic (more than 1 knife add about 1.30 per.) and at least 20 or 21 bucks outside the US.

(trust me on that :D).

If they are going to ship to you that will run about 25 or 30.

Thanks Gus! That extra knife amount had me a little baffled, you just saved me the trouble of doing a dry run to the PO with two knives in a box:D . I just shipped a PH2 to Sweden and it ran $22, so that's right in your ballpark, pretty far out of mine:o . I'll pick the knives up myself once they're ready, so we should save a little on that end anyway. I'll contact Canal Street tomorrow to get final OK on the knife and extras, and post here when I get their reply.

Eric,
Hope you did not mind me stepping in.
Did not want you to get that little bite for doing this. ;) If it turns out the knives need to be insured for more than 100.00 that will run the cost up a little more.

Between the time and gas going back and forth to the P.O. (and if your town is anything like Bastidville, the long lines) I don't think anyone will give you grief for rounding up a little (instead of rounding down.) :D.

Gus,
Step in any time you like, I don't mind at all! It's great to get advise from someone who's been there, believe me I appreciate it. The freebie should run betwen two and three bucks extra per person, depending on how many orders we get.

Damn! I just spent twenty minutes typing the next phase of this knife quest, got timed out when I tried to post it, and then lost everything I had typed once I logged in! I guess I have to learn to type faster (or Spark could add a little time to our inactive periods). Stay tuned while I give it another try, or better yet let me just paraphrase:
As you all probably guessed by now, the winner is the Canal Street canittler in D2 steel with interior mammoth ivory handles, scrolled bolsters, and etched blade.
While we're waiting for the scroll design and blade etch to be finalized (which should take a week or two), I'm going to start a new thread which will serve as the sign up sheet for those who are definitely committing to the knife. Here's the link to the thread:

Good job. It sounds like a nice knife. Before I post in the sign up thread, does anyone have a picture of a canittler knife? Just curious how it looks. In the Canal Street web site I don't see one.

Thanks.

Peter,
Post #15 on this thread has an image of what our knife will look like with some minor modifications

Someone posted a couple of pics (or at least drawings) somewhere back in this thread.

Thanks, that is exactly what I needed. It is going to be a great knife for my pocket. I will post in the other thread, I am in.

Check out the possibility of using Global priority Mail, flat rate envelope. You can start the small one at $5.25 base rate for international. Unfortunately, they don't let you ensure Global Priority, but if the buyer was willing to disclaim liability that wouldn't be too big of a problem.

You could also use air mail letter post- for 8 ounces to the UK, you could base rate at $6.75 and add registered mail status and return reciept for a total of $16.50. That is like $6 more affordable than a $150 insured Air Parcel Post package.

mp510,
Thanks for the suggestions! Does that letter post require an envelope only? I'd hate for the box the knife is in to be crushed en-route.
