2007 Blade Forum Benefit Bowie Totals

That's awesome, it was a worthwhile project and nice to see it turned out so well. Maybe we can have another raffle to see who gets to keep the award? Would be interesting to see if the award draws more than the knife itself to benefit breast cancer research...

Yeah, sure, Jose.......maybe not a bad idea to raffle off the award....but if you think that it is going to draw more than the BFB....I have an (ahem) genuwine made-from-a-file 100% authentic San Francisco bowie you might be interested in......

Besides that, for his support in the issue, and keeping the Forums up and running, it might be nice to gift it to Spark.

Best Regards,

STeven Garsson

Hi Steve,

Hmm, maybe not but how about a good deal on your Bradshaw? :D Spark was generous enough to allow the use of his forum for the original raffle so I'm sure he'd prefer more funds go towards finding a cure rather than accept it. Kudos to Spark and the other organizers, as well as those who donated in the hopes of winning the BFB...

Reading through this thread again so I wonder where the award is at the moment. Thinking it over it would probably be best to have a lottery for those who participated in organizing the event but were excluded from joining in the raffle. The letter from the organization seems to indicate the sum was eligible for a tax deduction as well. I know the trophy would be hard to give up but what's the current status?

Sounds good to me. I'm just holding it because I was asked to accept it at the awards banquet.
It belongs to everyone on this forum who contributed in any fashion.

As I mentioned above, I'm holding the award as I was asked to accept it at the banquet. NO one took the donation as a tax deduction.

Upon request, I will forward the reward (along with the reams of paperwork associated with the project ;)) to any project team member that wants it.

My gratification was in doing the work, not having the award. :)

I think a "yes/no" vote should be taken by the organizers to determine whether Kevin should just be allowed to keep it. He has contributed to generating more thought provoking threads here than anyone, IMHO. I have a feeling the vote would go "yes". If it's a "no" vote, then go from there. Just a suggestion from a contributor, not an organizer.

Kevin,

My apologies in regard to bringing the tax deduction into question. I have been one of your supporters on this forum as well. In all fairness though I think Stephan, Roger, Coop and the others who did the work behind the scenes should have an equal chance at owning the award, the makers as well. Would you mind having a raffle or something of the like for it?

I was a contributor as well, betzner, and must disagree with you. Why stack the deck in anyone's favor?

Jose, everyone knows I have been holding the award and I think I have said three times now that I would be glad to present it to any of the team members that would contact me. So what's with the with "equal chance"? All anyone has to do is drop me an email. kj1056@aol.com

I do not have the time to do any kind of raffle as my hands are full with CKCA business.

My questions to you are first, why are you all of a sudden so concerned with who has the award and two, would you like me to send it to you to decide it's fate?

Hi Kevin,

1. I was not aware of the award before.

2. No, I don't think any one person should decide. What's wrong with bringing up the subject and letting those involved in the BFB discuss it?

That is absolutely INCREDIBLE!!!

I am standing up and giving all those involved a standing ovation for doing such an amazing job!!!

Why not donate the award to the ABS Museum..?

SCREW A huge, ginormous pile of that crap...at least for the next 10 years or so.

THE ABS contributed NOTHING directly to this project, Russ...that's why.

Best Regards,

STeven Garsson

Because there are a specific number of people that actually made it happen....and you are not one of them.

You purchased tickets just like I did..just like a lot of people did...and it was for a good cause....IF the makers and other people DIRECTLY responsible want to vote on it, fine...otherwise...if you want to make an issue of it, spearhead the next BladeForums knife, and you can decide how you want to run the "awards" process.

This is chickenshit, Jose.

I'm rather sympathetic to Steven's position here. If the people who actually made it happen want to do X or Y with the award, it's their business. I bought tickets for it, but that doesn't give me a voice in this debate, nor do I think that they should report to us on what they decided, how, and why.

This has been challenging, and hopefully rewarding, for the people who work on this. Let's not give them a bitter aftertaste.

Thank you Suz, STeven and Joss.

Russ, I'm not sure the ABS Museum would be very interested in the award unless it's accompanied by the Bowie.
I might be wrong.

Steven, Kevin. I stand corrected. I thought a new home for the award
was being sought.
I don't know of a preferable residence for the award...so long as you
(Kevin) don't mind being it's caretaker.

Russ,

Sorry if I came off too rough in that last posting, it is a sore subject....yunno, forums, and the ABS...yadda, yadda, yadda.

IF the need comes up for a vote on a permanent home, you guys that spearheaded the project(facilitators and makers) should vote on it, and that will be that...otherwise, no one besides Jose has suggested with any fervor that Kevin Jones NOT be the caretaker of this award...and I am not picking on you, either Jose, there is just no reason to fuel a tempest in a teapot.

Best Regards,

STeven Garsson
