2008 CRKT catalog

I really love CRKT's and some of these have got me wanting to spend lots of money! I too dig the little turtle, and the Horus as well. I just got a Lake's P.A.L. from SMKW today in the mail...only 25 bucks with free shipping and a free superknife as well. I am VERY happy with this knife. Wow...more CRKT's to decide on...thanks for posting the catalog!

whoah, production Razels, and in a high carbon stainless.

and wtf at the knifemaker profiles , too bad so much of their stuff uses 420J2/3Cr13

Mainly i wish they would make more framelocks. Thier linerlocks just dont last ... Not for me anyway, *definatly a improvement in thier knives though..

The M16 and M21 Special Forces Versions (all black dress with a true hilt) can be carried tip up. CRKT advises against this; I don't know why. The Special Forces knives are particularly suited to it; the hilt quillions on the blade can be used as an Emmerson-style wave opener.
As for CRKT in general:
I have several favorite knives, and not one of them is a CRKT.
Having said that, I've owned more CRKTs than any other brand. Despite inferior materials and allegations of poor quality, their production line is consistently ergonomic and innovative. Not all of their knives are knives I'd buy, but every single one is a knife that someone would buy, and that says alot for a knife manufacturer. So IMHO, their knives may not be anything special, but they certainly fill a niche.

3Cr13 and 420J2 at 52-55 Rc!

It's nice that they are treating AUS-8 to 58-59 Rc, but really, they have a lot of butter knives in their lineup.

It's always puzzling to see users complain about the materials of CRKT knives. One must realize what kind of company they are and what they are trying to sell, this is not a full-line high-end company. They offer a lot of custom maker models that otherwise would be inaccessible to the general public and have several interesting locking mechanisms that are produced nowhere else.

I like CRKT for the different designs they offer. They may have some lower-end steel but seeing all the cool things they make with good fit and finish makes up for it. I'm excited about their expanding multi-tool line the most, interesting form factors and such. They really need to work on being more lefty-friendly with their knives, some go above the beyond like the M1 Lightfoot with 4 carry options, 2 pocket clips, 2 sets of screws and a wrench to swap them out but other models are completely lacking.

I have a 3Cr13 blade on my Zilla-Tool and in all honesty it works very well for being so soft.

AUS8 at 58-59 works OK for me. I'll pass on the others.

You need to compare apples with apples in the case of CRKT...will never compete with upper end knife companies...I won't even try to pretend that they do. But...for someone who splurges to drop around $50 or so (lots less if you wait a while on the model) they simply can't be beat. I have around 20CRKT's and almost always have at least one on me. I appreciate the variety, the styling, and the price. I have had no problems with workmanship ever...not even with the so-called "crappy" models, I have not had any problem. They don't always arrive razor-sharp, but nothing a little touch up can't fix. In all honesty, I have only ever had two knives misfunction...and those were both fairly expensive (around $100) SOGs. While I appreciate a good steel as much as the next guy...sometimes, I wonder why I need a steel with a rockwell of 60 or higher. I work at an office job, I do little things around the house, take a walk in the woods, stuff like that...and for my purpose, CRKT gives me the choice of many models that I actually can go out and buy once in a while.

Right now, my favorite CRKT's I own are my M-16 (a really great knife IMO), my Lake's P.A.L. (destined to become an EDC I believe), and my Corkum First Strike. I really like the new catalog and plan on getting more of these innovative knives. Ok...I'll step down from my soapbox...as you can tell I am a CRKT fan. To each their own...happy collecting everyone.

Yuck. I miss the old CRKT models like the Apache. I have never owned one, but others tell me that the Apache was probably the bst model they ever marketed.

I'd go for a black Pharaoh if it comes with a full PE. Glide lock and Fulcrom look pretty neat. That M21 G10 is definitely on the to buy list too.

I agree that they have their place, and that Kommer full throttle looks pretty cool.

and the razel line is interesting.

why is AUS8 their premium steel. why not s30v or at least something like D2

Probably so the knives can remain affordable.
Aus 8 is a good steel.

I recall that folks used to cut up animals with stone tools. I'm pretty sure AUS8 should suffice for proper use of a knife.
