You need to compare apples with apples in the case of CRKT...will never compete with upper end knife companies...I won't even try to pretend that they do. But...for someone who splurges to drop around $50 or so (lots less if you wait a while on the model) they simply can't be beat. I have around 20CRKT's and almost always have at least one on me. I appreciate the variety, the styling, and the price. I have had no problems with workmanship ever...not even with the so-called "crappy" models, I have not had any problem. They don't always arrive razor-sharp, but nothing a little touch up can't fix. In all honesty, I have only ever had two knives misfunction...and those were both fairly expensive (around $100) SOGs. While I appreciate a good steel as much as the next guy...sometimes, I wonder why I need a steel with a rockwell of 60 or higher. I work at an office job, I do little things around the house, take a walk in the woods, stuff like that...and for my purpose, CRKT gives me the choice of many models that I actually can go out and buy once in a while.
Right now, my favorite CRKT's I own are my M-16 (a really great knife IMO), my Lake's P.A.L. (destined to become an EDC I believe), and my Corkum First Strike. I really like the new catalog and plan on getting more of these innovative knives. Ok...I'll step down from my soapbox...as you can tell I am a CRKT fan. To each their own...happy collecting everyone.
