I'm on the fence on this one but will wait to see what shakes out before making a decision one way or another.

It's OK for folks on da fence to give input ;). I need all the ideas we can muster up! :D.

How bout a copy of Blues' Lanny's Clip by Ohta? Might be able to pull that off for around $400 in a bulk buy.

I'd go for 200 to 400, depending on the pattern. I'd think a single blade knife might be possible in that range. Say a slim trapper or single blade barlow.

If Tony Bose gave his blessing I think it would be fine but I would think it improper otherwise as it's Tony's pattern and Tony's a regular visitor and participant here. (Of course, I never hear about him saying "no", so it might be a moot point, but it'd be the right thing to do to ask first.)

The third knife from the bottom in this picture is from Ohta and is every bit as enjoyable as the Lanny's Clip pattern (moreso, in my opinion, because of the rear bolster):

It is one of my favorites for EDC. The price I paid the purveyor would probably indicate that we could get a bulk buy just under our ceiling of $400.

Well there ya go... I knew mine wasn't any good. ;)

I'm kinda' fence sittin' also, but like the idea of a custom forum knife.

The patterns mentioned are appealing, as are the makers' names. A $400 ceiling sounds about right to me. I'd prefer nothing fancy, but that's just my 2 cents. A 4" (closed) single blade sleeveboard or equal end jack would be pretty cool imho.

There is also a lot of talent on the BF knifemakers forums for sure. I hesitate to name any specific makers name, because I'm sure I would forget some, and you guys know who they are anyway.

Thanks for looking into this idea Gus.

A barlow would be something different and not very common in a custom. An equal end would be as appealing for me. Makers...I'd leave that decision to those with more expertise.

Well now, I voted 200-400 frog skins, but only if we select Ken Erickson as the maker on this one!

Anthony

It would be a terrible thing to ask Tony or Reese so

Ask them BOTH!!!!!:D:D:D

I almost didn't add my caveat about rear bolsters for fear of just this reaction. I see the smilies but want to make clear to everyone else that I was NOT impugning the quality of Blues' knife, merely voicing my own preferences. That is the one thing that keeps me from enjoying the Barlow pattern too.

Don't worry about it, Rick. I still find mine every bit as enjoyable. Heck, even moreso. ;)

No hard feelings.

Gus,

Don't know if a maker has been selected yet, but I agree with Sunnyd--Ken Erickson would be great--if he is open to this!

Still working on it guys. Have had one maker say yes. Will check with one other this weekend. I am not going to get into a discussion on who said yes and no since this task may not be a good thing for many makers; you will just have to trust me that I am asking. ;). I figure we will have 12 to 16 knives or so and that can mess up most makers schedules.

Well, I for one trust you and Blues implicitly and I am sure I speak for many here. You know Gus, I know there is a very lengthy road ahead here, and much discussion to be had by many but if this project gets off the ground and comes to fruition, I have no doubt that it will be a stunning success in every aspect because of your very capable attention to detail

That was your first mistake! ;)

(Thanks, Anthony. Your friendship and support means a lot to us both!)
