2008 forum knife order thread

A thought just occurred to me, you guys let me know if this sounds appropriate:

I just noticed that our departed friend cockroachfarm was part of this group order. I didn't know him, but reading through his posts, he sure added a lot to our forums here.

My thought is - does he have any kids, or any family, who have an interest in knives? I think a nice gesture would be for some of us to chip in and pay for something special, maybe some engraving, and a nice presentation box, or something along those lines. It's just a thought, and maybe I'm being sentimental, but it is his "last knife", so to speak. (I'll put up the first $20.)

What do you guys think?

I had emailed Neil O @ TNK as he was a good friend of his. I asked him how best to handle that. He may have a recommendation. I was very concerned about a package showing up out of the blue in the future. I have not heard back yet.

I like the idea of doing something nice, but would want to know it would not add grief.

I really miss Holger as I am sure a lot of you do also.

Talked to him right before I left for vacation and wore the hat he sent me this summer each day while I was walking the shore.

The hat is a baseball hat with
"50+ KRAFT

Cockroachfarm"

embroidered on the front.

His son is continuing his collection and we could send him the knife.

I am in for 20.

Ya, same here as well, but I don't have a cool hat from Holger, just good memories of an internet friend gone, sadly so.

I know I'm sliding off topic here but I have to say that some of the most decent people I've come across are right here in BF.
 
Damn!! I didn't know he had passed away until I read these recent posts. My heartfelt condolences to Holger's family, it was a great pleasure being involved with him on last years knife, one of the many reasons it turned out to be such a wonderful experience for me.
I'm definitely in for $20 as well.

Another good idea from Bastidville.

If you need $20 more, I'm in for it.

I'd like his son to have a little something 'extra' to remember his father ... something that could be passed down the line.
 
It appears as if there is more than enough to send the knife. I would recommend that we send the family all the money that has been promised. Instead of my $20. I am going to donate the second knife I have already paid for. All the money promised should go to the family, I am sure they could use it.

Ed, just mail my extra knife when they come in to his son.

On the box, I have a new William Henry wooden presentation box, I could get a jeweler friend to substitute their emblem with one that has whatever engraved on it.

Ed, Just let me know what you want on the emblem. If that is what you want to do.

I can get it done and will as soon as cleared by the mods on this forum.
I think we owe them that respect.

Just a suggestion, why not let Ed collect money, he can take PP or MO. I trust him. Once all the money is in, (and knives) I will ship presentation box to Ed, he can send it all at once to family. I will get it engraved and handle that end. I will send out as soon as I can get it done.

Don't know for sure about the Logo, but the wording will be easy.

Guys, he paid for the knife already. I am sorry that was not more clear. That was why I was worried about sending it out of the blue.

I had things show up for mom after she passed and it knocked me a bit.
