2008 Knifemakers Gift exchange companion thread

I'm right handed, and just like many others are saying, I love any knife that cuts well and feels good in the hand, whatever stile that may be.

sooooo,,,,

anyone start yet????

jm

Yup, I've started mine...needs a bit more clean up before HT. I also have to think about some other stuff before HT...tryin out some new stuff for me as far as techniques, so it ought to be interesting! -Matt-

I'm debating on sending the one i just finished ( fancy drop point 18th century belt knife) or making a new one... the one i just finished is forged from an Old Chevy Coil spring, copper guard and butt cap, elk antler handle, file worked and heat colored, brut de forge' spine, mirrored bevels ... but i just got in some 1" W1 so I think I'll use it to make a new one and send it since I'm not sure of the type of steel it was made out of... could be 10xx, could be 5160 could be

Stan,

Did you ever email Scott your real name for cross reference? He was asking for it...

Howard Fairchild is me, and I'm not picky, unless it comes to me actually making a knife, then it takes forever...

Yeah, i emailed it during the beginning, i was even on the list on the original post.

I got your recent email and replied. I'll be checking with my wife when she gets home from work to find out why you didn't get an email from her.

Mine is started. It's ready to start fitting the guard. It's a ladder pattern damascus drop point hunter. I'm thinking of using black ebony on the guard ( a change since I've always used some kind of metal in the past) and tulipwood or pink ivory for the handle.

Wow, i feel stupid, decided to search my inbox more thoroughly and found my name thats been archived and unread since september 9th. sorry about making a fuss about not having a name, when i just wasent being thorough enough.

Whew I just got over the Flue (All Week) and finaly got my Computer fixed.
(Had to purchase a new one) now I got my name and ready to build. I know exactly what I want to build already. just time to get it started.
And I am right handed if it matters.

Larry
