If "Mikeymoto" can't do the receiving/shipping, I'd be more than happy to do it. I just don't have the connections to do the negotiating part.
I agree wholeheartedly with finding a manufacturer 1st &/or picking a pattern that's being made, but then adding "touches" to it, kind of like the previous BFC knives.
That's why I suggested a mini Trapper vs a Dogleg or Swayback Jack. While those patterns are great, it might be hard to get something done.
Also, I think the goal is to "try" to keep the price around $100 or so, as I'm sure if the cost goes way above $100, the # of people that'll buy it will probably go down, steeply. JMHO, of course.
How about a Hawbaker Muskrat pattern, 3 7/8" closed with smooth bone scales and 1095 blades? Matchstrike nail nicks, round bolsters and a single backspring would be nice too.
1. Obviously, I can't choose(and don't want to) the fellas who pull the 2010 knife together, but I can say that Charlie(again, obviously) has the cred to make it happen, and Mikeymoto is well regarded in BladeForums.....so if the Traditional group chooses them, it should be a good fit.
2. The ONLY way to make the knife happen for less than $100.00 is to approach the manufacturer with a few options(ie, perhaps the top 3 suggestions) and see what they come back with. As an example, Case is the only company that produces a swayback around this price point as far as I know, but they will not do custom runs of less than 500 knives. This Queen knife we did for 2009 was TOTAL custom as far as features, but the handle pattern and clip blade were the starting point that was NOT custom.
I hope this makes sense.
