2010 Case/Bose Collaboration Knife

Case's ebony is stable. I use an ebony AK hunter in the kitchen w/o any problem. It gets wet and greasy on a regular basis, wiped off and dries out in my pocket. Only sign of use is some rust freckles on the interior of the backspring. I use Ren wax occionally when I want it to look good. A little 400 or 600 grit sandpaper takes the scratches off the bolsters.

So there is going to be Ebony for sure? I think I hear angels singing again :D

FWIW Ebony doesn't need to be stabalized, and you know what they say about Ebony don't ya' ? It does a body good :D

Yes, on ebony for sure, and....whatever.

Carrying a knife today with ebony scales that I've put through hell and back and is from the 1910's. My philosophy has always been if you don't worry about it, it won't happen (making reference in this case to cracking) ;)

Sumbich...this thread is driving me bonkers (in a good way). Can't wait to get a shot at one of the Zulus (not a Rudyard Kipling quote, btw). :)

What could be more natural than ebony or ivory on a Zulu?

I was a good woodworker for many years...wood is good...sometimes it cracks. as i get older i have less need for things that last indefinitely and more appreciation of here-and-now character, even with cracks.

just my humble ought2

Friends,

It looks to me like Tony hit another one out of the park with the New Zulu! Ebony would Again be Great on MY next collab, but Ivory would be greater! Don't know if Ivory is in the running, but any of the scales on this Zulu would be the cats meow! :D

PS. For all of these "Homeruns" Tony has been hitting on the collabs, is he on steroids???  :D

Basically, Mr. Bose whose work is probably THE most highly regarded of any knifemaker of Traditional style folders, designs a knife that is unique, not already in any production line up.
This pattern is then made by a select group of experienced Case employees, with input and supervision by Mr. Bose. a high end steel is used for the blades and select material for the handles with 4 or 5 options such as Pearl, Ebony, etc. a limited number are made in each handle material.
this began in 2001 (i think), with one new pattern each year.
i am not an expert on these collabs, so if any correction is needed to this, i'm sure those more familiar will chime in.

Thank you, Roland and Somniloquist. I thought that might be the case but didn't know if it was a forum thing or a manufacturer thing.

I wonder if I can come up with the scratch to purchase one of these. I really like the "Zulu spear" blade but I've only got about five other irons in the fire right now. Oh to be a millionaire...

I agree....that was just plain mean. :)

Get outa here!!

You KNOW you are happy for me!!

But think of the Karma I'm accumulating!! Do you know, in my next lifetime, I get NO knives!!:grumpy: NONE!!

And, I get a free lifetime membership to Bladeforums!! Groan!!

:D:D:D

I picked up my first Case/Bose collaboration knife a couple of weeks ago. It was the 2009 Norfolk in amber bone. I can't say how impressed I am with the design and work of my knife. Really top shelf.

Since I've never really followed the Case/Bose production knives, but am definitely interested in the Zulu, can anyone tell me when they are expected to be built and hit dealers' shelves?

Historically they start showing up at dealers around the July/August time frame.

me too. if anyone cares to post here or PM me the name of a collab dealer who does not inflate price excessively when they are first released, i'll be much appreciative.

I'm watching now.....
Does anybody have any more spy shots for us to feed on for a bit?

Is it too soon to ask for more pictures? ;)

Will this work? This is Tony's prototypes that was sent to Case last year. One is a completed knife and the other is a pull-apart so that the Case engineers can look at it's innards.
