Glad you are in Mack! I had a fun time getting enough fun money for this. Bills and kids tuition have to come first, and we were coming up a little short. So, I sold our old pool fence that was rotting on the back deck for an easy Craigslist $100.00 I told the wifey, "There, now I can buy my knife guilt free!" She said, "Guilt free huh? We need groceries!" I said, "Doh!" yeah, just like Homer. I knew I was not in guilt free territory. I waited til the end of May, and sure enough, a check from a long forgotten class action lawsuit against Home Depot landed for $175. I had worked for HD for the time allotted and all I had to do was participate to recieve this. I now have purchased my guilt free forum knife!!!! I can only hope to win the give away from Mr. Way North! Unless you win it of course!

Well, I've been putting in a few good weeks lately and so SWMBO gave me the ok to spend some money. I've been saving quite a bit by doing most of my own maintenance so I guess she thinks I've been a good boy.:D

I couldn't let another year's knife pass me by.

Not to stir up the hornets nest again, but I was also curious about what caused the shield change on the knife. I had waited figuring that eventually someone would answer the question raised. Oh, and also do we know if it is a pinned shield or glued (I'd honestly prefer glued on that)

Lil help y'all?

Syn

The shield will be pinned like a traditional knife.

Figured I'd might as well go on the record: I Paypalled my $$ to Mike for one of the 2010 Forum knives. I've only been "here" for a couple of months but am already feeling at home.

I'm proud to be a BF member. And, I figure I've saved 100's of man-hours (those would be MY man-hours) by being able to search the BF threads for information vs. having to google out in the www.

This post is to apologize for the confusion I have created about the shield on the knife.
It may have been my own prejudice. I remembered that we talked about a couple of possibilities, the bar shield being one. When I talked to Queen, I asked what they had available without the cost of new tooling, and the bar remained in my memory, which I now must admit, is not as good as it used to be.:(
Looking through a lot of old knives for this project, I saw a bar on many of them, and realized it was very common at the turn of the century, and our knife is modeled on a 1902 Schatt & Morgan design.
So I set up the specifications with the production manager, assuming it was acceptable. I honestly thought it was one of our acceptable alternatives.
If it was not, I apologize to any who were misled.
It seems well over 100 of you have ordered the bar shielded knife, and so it's too late to change it. It is, after all, a beautiful knife!
If it has caused any more concern that I am not aware of, let me know please!
I take full responsibility, as the ordering steps were all done by me. Eric, Mike and Gene(Ivan) have done their best to keep me on track, but it's a tough job!:D

The bar shield will be my first, I am glad it is how it is. It is impossible to please everyone. I have not liked a knife feature or pattern before til I had it, and then changed my mind that I actually do like the pattern or feature. It should not be a deal breaker in my opinion, but my opinion is probably only valuable to me.:o

Thanks Waynorth and don't worry at all, I for one prefer the bar :D

X2 on that Charlie. IMO with all the new knives out there with fancy shields, a nice simple bar would be a refreshing change. Especially a pinned shield.

Here's a turn of the century knife with a bar shield.Filmore Cutlery from Austria made for contract to Robeson.

just looked right to me given the pattern, completes the old school look of the knife with the ebony and the 1095:thumbup:,and all the better that it was the affordable option... i'd bet that i'm not the only one with concerns about the final cost of the piece.
Charlie and Co. have been doing a beautiful job of handling all the details.
And I will be sending out the art for the box and tang tomorrow (been getting beat up pretty good at work sorry for the delay!)
The knife is gonna be Fantastic!
