2010 March of Dimes Fundraiser

Hi Everyone!

I was going to ship the knife out to Joe Mason today until I figured out the the post office was closed for Martin Luther King Junior's birthday. So I'll ship it out Wednesday.

Mr. Foster did a great job with his part of this project! Here are a few pictures of what I did after I got the knife back from Burt Foster.

Here I have finished hand sanding the blade and it is ready to be etched.

I etched the blade for 20 minutes going in five minute intervals, etch and clean the blade/ etch and clean the blade...

Here is a close up of the damascus pattern.

In this picture you can see how the damascus flows with the blade edge out the tip.

I etched Burt's makers mark then I etched mine.

Next I etched the thin damascus spacer in-between the guard and handle. The pattern on the damascus spacer is a "W" Ladder edge view.

In this picture I have epoxied the handle on with West Systems Epoxy and after letting it set over night I put the pin in the handle and cleaned up the ivory with a buffer.

And here's the knife ready to be sent off to Joe Mason for engraving.

Where do I sign up and buy many, many tickets? That is one outstanding piece and I envy the lucky winner. Of course if by chance that is me, than you can all envy me. Either way it sure is a winner and a just cause. :)

Good going everyone, JK

Boy is this one turning out beautiful!! Thanks Kyle and Burt for what you have done:thumbup:I can't wait to see what Joe does with it!
Jon I will start selling chances in less than a month, and I will be sure to let everyone here know so they may participate if they chose. The drawing for this one will be somere around April 16th, give or take a day or two.

Looking good.
Very nice blade steel and the thin damascus spacer really adds a very nice and subtle touch.

LOVE the steel!

(And I liked the original drawing better than the final version with the guard. :))

Good on all of you, very generous.Of course the knifes looking great. How could it not with all of you working on it!?

John,

The Ivory for the display box is in house. I'll be gone all weekend at a hammer-in but will get on it Monday. I've got a couple preliminary sketches drawn already so I'll just need to tweak size to fit the final dimensions of the concho.

Shouldn't be a problem to get it on it's way back home by the end of the week next week at the latest.

Wow, wow, WOW! Everything about it.

Impressive.

I've made an Ivory pendant to be inlayed into the display box for this project and got my rough sketch of the scrimshaw done.

I thought I'd post a few pics and hopefully get a few opinions before I start the scrimshaw tomorrow.

I went through several different design ideas before settling on this style as my favorite.

I thought it would be good to incorperate leaves based loosly on the engraving displayed on Joe Mason's website in an attempt to tie the scrimshaw in with the knife.

Let me know what you guys think.

Looks great to me too Josh!I just picked out a beautiful redwood burl slab for the display stand(not box:D) from some pics that Mark at Burl Source sent me, and this will be the perfect compliment for it!

That looks very nice!!!

I've made a bit of progress on the scrimshaw.

1st pic is of the pattern transfered onto the Ivory

2nd pic is the bordering completed and "Inked" with black oil paint.

There will be minor adjustments to the border made during the process of shading the leaves and filling the letters with color but It's real close other than the line I missed in the upper right hand leaves.

Hope to finish up later tonight or tomorrow and have it on it's way to John Monday.
