2011 le

they used to :p

On the look out for a Large one now ;)

BTW I like this new design. I have LE's from 2006 and this is a sweet looking design.

Yea, I am trying to like it but find it visually distracting... maybe I have to see it in person, but it's difficult to look at with no pattern/focus point.
I prefer simplicity, clean lines and symmetry.
What's great about Chris Reeve's, or any art for that matter, is it's open to interpretation, perception and preference.
I'll pass on this one, but there are many other models on my wish list.

I do not like the look of the embedded gold at all. And why the drastic price premium? Surely it can't be the little bit of gold causing it, or is it? I was going to try and grab one of these from a dealer for my brother's 30th, but instead I will likely order one with micarta inlays.

I pulled the trigger on a wee one as well. From an "artful" knife website. :D

This will be my 3rd Sebenza, 2nd Small. I like the Small Regular!

Kind regards,

Jos

I received my set last night and have to say I am very pleased with this years offering. Unique when compared to all my other annuals, the brushed finish is nice and the metals are like embedded points of light in the wood.

My small arrived today along with a 2002 Ironwood.
I hope CRK offers a choice of woods next year.

Is the swedge on all the blades or is it an option? I love the blade profile and I want to try to the regular handle, but the gold does make it seem a little fancy for me. Am I supposed to just look at it or use it? Is this the normal price zone for LE's or is this year special? Thanks

I absolutely LOVE Chris Reeve Knives, and everything that it stands for... but with that being said, I do not like their choice for the 2011 Limited Edition Annuals... I was really looking forward to picking one up this year, hopefully in some beautiful burl, but after seeing their choice in wood this year, matched with the standard gold/silver inlays, I will sadly have to decline... :(
I'm sure some people will love it, but its just not what I was hoping for, or expecting. What happened to the beautiful variety of exotic woods as with the past years? I really hope that they will come back next year...

Use it?? Are you nuts? Of course you're supposed to just look at it! ;)

Just kidding of course, it's every bit as functional as a plain Sebenza. I'm getting one, I will probably carry it on occasion, but it will see no heavy use.

but with that being said, I do not like their choice for the 2011 Limited Edition Annuals...

I hear that a lot... I like the looks of that Wenge, but then again, it wouldn't be bad to have some choices. As for the gold & silver beads, lots of people seem to dislike them as well, and again, I kinda like 'em.

Well, we'll see what comes next year!

kind regards,

Jos

I think this years very unique LE will be sought after in the future and there will be many people kicking themselves over passing them up.

I love the annuals that I have from previous years.

Unfortunately the current offering has two strikes against it which will stop me from picking one up. The wood inlay is not to my taste and the IM stamp on the back is a deal breaker.

Pity....

This may have been asked already, but my Google-foo is weak right now - since there is only one inlay option this year, are there 120? Or just 60 of the Wenge? (sorry for the cheap rhyme)

I am thinking you are very correct in your assumption. Reason is they no longer make the "regular" Sebenza and only the 21. Doing a special run for 120 knives makes them more expensive to make.

Here is my pair. I get the large with double thumb lugs and a swedge. Sweet blade IMHO.

I personally think it looks good, but not great. Don't get me wrong, i'd love to own it, but i never was into silver/gold combo anything.

I've looked at the 2011 annual over and over and each time I like the look more and more perhaps it has to do with the fact that so different from other years. Today I pulled the trigger and I should have it in a few days. Thank you to everyone who has contributed to this thread.

Iv'e really come to love it. It reminds me of an artifact that belongs on Captain Jack Sparrow's ship.
