I was really hoping to be voting for a Lisch this year.

My vote went to Gerhard Wieland. It was the only blade of the 5 finalists that talked to me and kept me interested. All 5 knives are exceptional pieces, (duh) that have their own stories to tell. I found Toruk's to be the most compelling though, and that's why I voted for it.

I voted for the Royer knife.
Clean, classic design... When someone says (modern) "Bowie" this is the knife I'm thinking of.
Like the man said "Less is more, more or less"

For me, two stand out: Jason Knight's Blade Show Bowie and Mike Ruth, Jr.'s Fire Stag Bowie. Very close, but in the end I favor Jason's Knight Blade Show Bowie. Personally, I am just not a fan of S-guards, however Mike's here s one my favorite ones that I have ever seen. Really nicely done! But what put Jason's knife over the top to me were the blade shape and the shape of the stag handle - I suspect it would fill my hand better.

Congrats to all of these makers. And thanks to Roger for doing this.

I voted for Mike Ruth Jr's knife because as stated above, it just has that perfect bowie thing going for it. I love the ladder damascus, the guard, and that stag is awesome. All the knives are unreal and a congrats goes out to all the makers of these five fine knives.

-Mike

My vote goes to the Toruk by Gerhard
So singular in design.

All great efforts by these makers,
Thank you

I voted for Mike Ruth Jr.s bowie. I was torn between that one and Kyles even though they are polar opposites- dark and cold vs. bright and hot. Both guys are fantasic makers.

It's quite exciting seeing these two young extremely promising knife makers going head to head with these two fine knives.
May possibly even prove to be historic, as 20 years from now when these two are still in their prime, they may be considered two of the finest ever! Could happen, considering the course they're on.

Each knife pictured is absolutely amazing and asking us to only pick one is almost unfair. There are no bad knives, nothing but steel of the highest quality. That being said, I voted for Mike's Fire Stag Bowie. Not only is the damascus beautiful, the materials premium, along with a fit and finish that is absolutely fantastic ....the knife is completely balanced in the hand. You don't hold onto the knife, it holds on to you.

I voted Lurquin, because it's the only knife out of this group that I had the pleasure of handling, and fondling, and drooling over in real life.

Trust me, it looks even better when you're holding it! ;)

My second choice would be the Jason Knight Bowie.

Kind regards,

Jos

These are all beautiful knives. I would be thrilled to own any (or all ;) ) of them. I had written a lengthy explanation about the process I used to choose "my" first place knife but it really isn't worth posting.

Suffice to say that Mike Ruth, Jr.'s entrant hits all of the marks. Of all the knives posted, it screams "bowie" at me the loudest.

Some great comments here that help younger or less expierianced guys learn and form opinions of their own. Congrats to all the finalists. Each peice hold an attraction all its own.

After picking every detail apart in my mind I made a tough decision. Then I read Kevin Jones take on it and felt déjà vu, Kevin wrote my thoughts on the finalists that formed my reasoning for the vote I cast.

All five are amazing, albeit like many others perhaps not my exact top 5. The Knight and Lurquin are so similar, I would have picked only one for inclusion if at all and that would have probably been Jason's because of the stag. I went with Gerhard last year, but of the ones presented this year, young Mr. Royer is getting my vote. I do like me some long clip bowies in case you guys hadn't noticed over the last few years.:D

Somebody has to win - but they're all winners.
I was torn between Kyle and Mike JR.
I voted for Mike for obvious reasons.
If Kyle's had been Damascus I might still be debating.

Jr.'s bowie got my vote simply because if all were placed on a table for me to examine,it would be the first one I would pick up.For me,this is just the one that speaks the loudest and is more in line with my tastes, although I would probably sell a bodypart or two to own any of them!

What a great contest this year. Jason and Sam's are the two that talk to me the most, with my vote going into Sam's court. Just a great design.

Congratulations to all the finalists.

I love both the Mike Ruth Bowie and Kyle's Shadow of the West which I could have sworn was owned by Roger but maybe it has gone to other pastures. I don't think the photo does Kyle's knife full justice if it is the knife I recall handling. Photos do influence final decisions and though I have knives by both makers and am a fan of both, today I think I have to go with Mike's Bowie.

Samuel Lurquin's knives have been the Superstars of the year, i feel. He is like a meteor crashing here, with 11 nominations. That must be a record!
Congratulations to all,
David
