And this is the year 2013, a happy new year to you all guys...:D

I do not know if it is still possible, but as the knife of Sam is on a single photo, I added one. If mind, sorry, there is to delete.

I voted for Jason Knight because his style fit my vision of a straightforward knife that could be admired for the craftsmanship or actually used. They're all pretty awesome though.

Without doubt the 5 final makers and their knives are magnificent to say the least. After great deliberation, when I had the mouse hovering over the icon to put my vote in , I must have taken 10 minutes or more to press it! I have voted for Mr Mike Ruth Jnr, to me it just spoke about what a bowie is. They all did no doubt about it. Congrats to the final winner! I have enjoyed this very much, so many fine works wow. Thank you everyone for putting it up and for being involved.
Cheers Keith

I'm a bit bummed that none of my noms made it to the final five but whaddaya gonna do? In any event I voted for Mike Ruth's piece, which is a a clear stand-out to my eyes. Congrats and best of luck to all the finalists!

Happy New Year to all

waooooooo, I do not know what to say! this is really amazing, I alot of luck and can not believe my eyes

be named side by side with exceptional master cutler is fantastic, it is a great honor for me
thank you really for all your encouragement and compliments
thank you

then
for the selection
pfffui, this is difficult, so the knives Jason, Kyle, Myke and Gerhard are exeptional and High level working!

My opinion is that if someone ask me to make the definition of what can be a bowie, I will not see another knife that piece performed by Mike, for all sorts of reasons (shape blade guard sambar) I think this knife is esscence even that is a bowie, in any case, in my opinion, this knife is exeptional
but beside this, I've always liked the modernity and reinterpretation seen and felt through the eyes of any people in this case it Jason
I am in love with this knife for alot of reason, because to me, it really is the modern view and revistée a pure bowie, I will not see another way represents an antique bowie to our time, modified with alot of thought and taste and talent by my brother Jason
that is why I chose the knife vote as Jason,

but it's really difficult and heartbreaking for me because in my eyes, knives Kyle and Mike are the Ferrari Testarossa of cutlery

happy new year
Sam

Hello,
I vot for
N°1 :Tsavo by Sam .I have had this knife in hand and, this is always a surprise, but Sam's knife do always feel lighter in hand than they look like.As usual perfect lines, perfect geometry of the edge......perfect handle . Someone's very happy with this knife......
N°2 : Kyle Royer's Shadow . This means business as a fighter...nothing fancy but oh so perfect, clean lines, simple and perfect. Very difficult to do,there is nothing fancy to distract you ,to cover for an imperfection....

I had to push the button for mike ruth jr.:
his knife is nearest to the image of my personal ´THE BOWIE´-idea.
it is perfectly built with spectacular damast and materials,
but so are the other three finalist-knives too.

I´m really astonished, that my fantasy-weighted ´toruk´ made it into the finals,
thank you for all the votings- it´s great for me!

happy new year to all!

Hello all and happy new year.

2 of my favorites in the top 5, that's great, just feel sad for the "Inquisitor" of Patrice Lemee.

Far far away from any technical issue, both the "shadow of the west bowie" and "the toruk bowie" make me travelled in a blink of an eye, and that mesmerize a guy like me, a simple picture can clearly tell you more that a thousand words.

But I feel the power of a Tsavo through my skin and muscle, such a powerfull weapon with a disconcerting lightness...

I obviously vote for Lurquin's Tsavo, good luck for the others finalists.

I tried hard to separate my choices of knives I'd like to own vs. knives which would be considered Best Bowie.

Knife I'd like to own top contender: Sam's Tsavo.

Knife I considered to be the pinnacle of achievement as Best Bowie: Mike's Fire Stag Bowie.

In Mike's case the guard area just topped it off. Generally an 'S' guard has little adornment (Witness the simplicity and worth of Kyle's piece) or goes the beautiful 'clam' route (Fisk, et al).

Mike didn't go to school that day and shaped that guard and then bent it all up. LOL!

What a great field.

Every year the photo aspect comes up, and it always bears repeating: Having VERY good photography will help the viewer extract the most emotion and information out of a piece, and needs no apology for doing so. :)

Thanks to Roger and Lorien for running this show!

first to all HAPPY NEW YEAR TO EVERYONE , my favorite is the bowie of Gerhard Wieland Toruk Bowie, for the blade construction and the global shape

5. Gerhard Wieland Toruk Bowie

I love both the Mike Ruth Bowie and Kyle's Shadow of the West which I could have sworn was owned by Roger but maybe it has gone to other pastures. I don't think the photo does Kyle's knife full justice if it is the knife I recall handling. Photos do influence final decisions and though I have knives by both makers and am a fan of both, today I think I have to go with Mike's Bowie.

Nope. :) Still in my pasture.

It was a tough choice, but in the end Jason Knight's knife got my vote.

ALL the entries were extraordinary and not having handled any of the finalists, my choice was made from the pictures.

From the perspective that I could choose ONE knife to own:

I am a fan of damascus so that narrowed the selection to Sam's, Jason's and Mike JR's knives. From there, while I like JR's damascus the most, I found the recurve blade a bit more compelling, which eliminated Mike JR's awesome bowie. Then, the final detail was preference of the stag over wood on the Tsavo.

It was another incredible show of knives and CONGRATS to all those that posted and made knives that were shown.

HAPPY NEW YEAR,
Peter

Hard to choose one...they are all outstanding,I finally voted for the Mike Ruth Jr. JS Fire Stag Bowie-the ladder pattern with the subtle hamon just really speaks, and the stag is just gorgeous.

All of the finalists were super knives.

I voted for Mike Ruth Jr. because the ladder Damascus was spectacular, the stag was beautiful and it has a classic Bowie shape.

All spectacular pieces and congrats to all. I had to go with Kyle's because it screams such precision. All the dark colors really flipped my switch. His extensive wire inlay work on this piece is a near flawless as can be done.

All are fine examples of what a bowie should be. I too chose the Royer bowie for much of the same reasons as Rons post above. This is an extremely well done knife using some of the most difficult fit and finishes. The design didnt just happen by accident to come out right, there is some serious time and thought involved in this one. Well done Kyle.

If I were going to own one, it would be Kyle Royer's bowie - damascus leaves me cold. Like everyone has said, though, they're all amazing pieces in their different ways. In the end I had to vote for the Ruth because to me it's the perfect example of a bowie.
