What about a 2 blade Sowbelly Trapper 3-5/8 with a Clip blade
and a semi skinner with 1095 blade steel, bolsters and caps
with jigged bone or Black micarta. Or that Congress Jack.

Jason

I like that congress jack a whoooole lot.

Whatever the pattern I think GEC should make it!

I've seen 3 so far that I like, waynorth's Stockman, Rick's swayback, and eisman's congress. As long as its about the size of the 2011 or 2009 knives and has a Wharncliffe blade, I'll be really happy. Regardless, I'm in for at least one.

BTW: Thanks Manfred and Ash for taking on this challenge.

Those look good to me, too, although I'm not clear on the size. How big were the 2009 and 2011 knives?

Swayback...hmmm....

What about a TL-29? Am I crazy? A real nice one? Or a whittler of some kind? Is anyone considering a fixed blade?

My top picks are a split backspring sowbelly whittler or a 2-blade sowbelly (Double-end Premium Jacks.... Using the same parts as premium stock knives). To my knowledge, none of the current knife manufacturers has made either one. They aren't simple patterns but I think GEC or Queen could pull it off. Queen has a sowbelly pattern but it would take some tweaking to get a split backspring or a 2-blade. GEC would have to add a sowbelly pattern but I think it would be a good choice for them. They could use the same handle for regular production 3-blade sowbellies, 4-blade sowbellies, 5-blade sowbellies, sowbelly trappers, Texas Jacks, etc.

My next choice would be a 3-blade surveyor pattern modeled like this Maher & Grosh. It's a bit longer and narrower than Queen/Schatt&Morgan railsplitter pattern.

I'd like a wharncliffe trapper or 2 bladed jack based on a trapper frame. It shouldn't be hard to find a manufacturer for this.

I do admit to a GEC preference for this as I love GEC's #48 pattern. If its a WT, while GEC doesn't have a production WT model, they have made single blade #48s and have made wharncliffe blades on the #48 frame for the Scagel Fruitports. Should be easy enough to mate the two. And for a Trapper Jack, I'd still use the #48 frame, put the pen blade in front of the skinner clip blade (single blade #48s). A re-creation of a Schrade Walden 294 Jack is what I'm looking for here. We could do the peach seed jigged bone, double bomb shield (GEC already has these) and maybe a fluted bolster to set it apart from other #48s.

That said, I get one of these if Queen or Case made it too.

That sounds good.

Yeah! I get to campaign for a knife this year. This big All-American Stockman has been sitting on my desk for almost two years. Occasionally it might go to the store with me, but I have chosen not to use it, as I have too many that have wear and use.
It is a big'un at 4 3/8", and has beautiful blades, and smooth bone handles. Carbon steel tops it off.
I bought it years ago, and it was made by Bill at Great Eastern (when he worked for Queen) for the then owner of the Case Classics brand. He was quite proud of the knife back in 1997. I suspect we could convince him to make a "clone", if it turns enough cranks here! Think about it folksy folks!!

If Charlie can flex his muscles (are you up to 275lbs for reps on bench?) and get it done, then I think we should jump on the opportunity.

A congress jack from GEC would be cool...in 440C (*ducks)...

Nathan

I would also like to see more 440C from GEC.

I second Trand on a wharncliffe trapper, but I might offer an alternative, a serpentine wharncliffe trapper on the GEC #66 frame. Start with the simple #66 frame with the muskrat clip blade from the GEC Mink Muskrat and add a wharncliffe blade. Voila, a wharncliffe trapper in a serpentine frame. To make it funky. Go 440C blades.
...

That sounds good too. Either the #48 or the #66 frame work for me.

3 5/8" SOWBELLY in 2012!!! :thumbup::thumbup:

-that pattern Waynorth is showing off looks mighty sweet, too :D

 :)

I want this! I've been lusting after this Congress Jack for months. It is not a "regular" pattern, and it's nice.

That Ryuichi Kawamura Congress Jack is a sweetheart. I'm on Ryu's list for another pattern but I think I should add this one too.

I like the sowbelly trapper idea. The semi skinner second blade sounds good to me but my preference would be for a Wharncliffe secondary blade.

For a pattern that is a variant of a currently produced knife I would like to see a Wharncliffe Trapper based on either the CS Half Moon or GEC's #48 frame. I wouldn't have a problem with the Congress Jack either.

If it's feasible to get a company to bring back an old pattern like last year, I'd love to see a Eureka Jack.

Thank you Manfred and Ash for stepping up to take on the responsibility of this project.

Alright, after lookin' at the Congress Jack and after pullin' out my Queen Congress, I like the idea of the Congress Jack but could it be made big enough to utilize the BFC tang stamp we had made?

Jake, a Wharncliffe sounds good to me as well! I thought about that
but wasn't sure which one I liked better... 2 blade Sowbelly is
a GREAT pattern..imho

My wishlist for 2012 forum knife is a 3 5/8" or 3 7/8" in either pattern: wharncliffe trapper or gunstock (clip master; spear/pen secondary). Would love to see GEC to manufacture it as I think they did an outstanding job on last year's offering. 1095, half stop, jigged bone, and whatever shield design is appropriate.

Yup. Congress Jack sounds good. In CARBON steel. (Throws a half-empty RC Cola can at Nathan's head . . . )

Or a Sodbuster would be good too.

A Wharncliffe trapper or better yet, a GEC Wharncliffe Scout would interest me much.
3.5 - 4.0 inches closed.
Bone scales, red or brown.
I'd lose interest as the price started drifting much above $110.
440C would be awesome. 1095 acceptable. No CV and no Tru-Sharp.

Pretty darn close to what I was thinking. I have been lusting after sheepsfoot/wharncliffes lately. I would like more of a whittler wharncliffe/sheepsfoot wide blade with long pull. I think it would look good with some red or brown jigged micarta.

This is a fantatsic knife Jake, IF GEC could do this in their stainless with two versions some really nice acyrllc (Lava Lamp, Tortoise etc) and one in Caramel Bone then I'd order them! But, I know this may be beyond reach or?:D

I would like to see this year one of those three
1. Congress jack as my first choice, or
2. Eureka Jack, or
3. Saddlehorn , T. Bose style of blades.
Jigged bone, old green color and closed length 3 1/2" - 3 5/8".

Mike

wow what a line up!

not easy to pick one over the others.
But...
lannys clip.
the yukon.
scout/camper.
American stockman.

gotta be bone or stag or ramshorn.

thanks to the guys who volunteered.
I know it will go well.

right. keep em coming!

I'm still sweet on that Congress Jack, though I would like to see a handle material not used in Forums knives before.
I think this one would look spiffy in a tortoise shell acrylic.

I like what Corey said just above me. Congress Jack with acrylic
