This time it's for real...

So, it seems that we still do not a clear cut winner based on our latest poll. We do have two frontrunners with a statistically similar amount of supporters. So, what's the best way to determine the winner? A duel to the death.

Two knives enter, one knife leaves! Two knives enter, one knife leaves! Two knives enter, one knife leaves!

In this corner, we have the Wharncliffe Trapper. Most people who have supported this pattern have wanted it bareheaded (only one bolster) with only one blade, although there is a significant contingent that wants it with a Turkish/California/muskrat clip secondary - which will allow both blades to be opened by thumbnail from the same side. Primary shield choice right now seems to be the Federal. Here's a basic idea of the pattern from the previous thread:

In the other corner, we have the Congress Jack. Shown here with a sheepsfoot blade primary - maybe a lambsfoot might be an option to make it more pocket-friendly (obviously we'd have to talk to the manufacturers)? Most people have said that a bar shield will look best. I thought, probably rather naively that everyone would think that a pen secondary would be pretty cool. But, I think I may have been wrong. So offer suggestions for the secondary blade. here's basically what it looks like:

So, vote for which knife you want to be this year's knife. Hopefully there will be a clear winner. Offer up suggestions for shields, bolsters, secondary blades (if any), etc. Again, we will be handling scale materials in a different poll, but you know what, offer up suggestions anyway. Thanks.

So, let it begin - just don't start singing Tina Turner.

Two knives enter, one knife leaves! Two knives enter, one knife leaves! Two knives enter, one knife leaves!

Wharncliffe Trapper
3 1/2" - 3 7/8"
2 blades - Muskrat clip in front of a Wharncliffe blade (Ie standard wharncliffe trapper config)
Barehead with Federal shield works for me.

WT for me.
Not a trapper at all, but in traditional terms, a curved Jack with a Wharncliffe blade.
A rose by any other name . . . . . . . . . . .
Call it what you will, I'll take it!!

I voted for the congress jack. I like it exactly as shown.

If the trapper wins, I like the configuration suggested by Trand in post #2.

I voted for the WT, I really like the blade profile, but I really like the congress jack too... For the CJ let the main blade stay the same as pictured but add the Wharnecliffe as the secondary..;)
I like the handle material shown but maybe smooth white bone with silver pins...
I would really be happy with either of the pictured blades in that config :D

I voted for the WT - hoping to get one like Trand
For me the "standard" WT configuration is just perfect. Without the muskrat clip it's only half a knife :D

I'm actually voting against a true Wharncliffe, but the CJ works best for me as I carry currently. I would like a spey or deep bellied clip blade to offset the pointy tipped straight edge of the main blade- still in the same size range as the pen blade in the pic. I like the wraparound spring as well, adding extra to the grip. 3.5-4", hopefully closer to 4" for food prep work that predominates my usage of a knife like this, and as it is relatively narrow I find it should carry well in a longer choice. Pinched and grooved bolsters would be great, and a bar shield would be fine with me, although I think I would find any shield with crisp angles to be suitable.

(I know we aren't talking about handle material here, but for both choices I feel the same- Ram's horn would top my choices as it is the most unique from past BF incarnations. I would give a second choice to cocobolo/rosewood, or any other nice wood (not necessarily ebony- african blackwood would be another option). A nice sharply jigged micarta would be nice too, but I'm not interested in celluloid on a working knife that would tend to be more scratched up.)

I'm very excited because I like both knives this year, and if the trapper wins I will probably be in as well. With the Trapper I would love it in 2 different blade lengths, the longer master wharncliffe and a shorter full bellied clip or spey. In past years either I did not know of the knife (cannitler), wasn't interested in the pattern in time (moose), or the design as a whole just wasn't for me. This will probably be the only purchase I can afford this year so I am excited to see what is decided.

Thank you to the committee for all of the effort in trying to narrow down 100+ different peoples wants and suggestions. It is greatly appreciated.

Kris

Thanks for running this run-off between the two highest vote getters in the other thread.

I voted for the Congress Jack -- ringed or slanted bolsters not necessary and the shield shown would do just fine or actually, no shield at all would be fine. Ebony covers would be fine or perhaps acrylic/perylic covers.

I've said it before, I'll say it again. I want the Congress Jack. Photo configuartion is fine. Other scales are OK. Would prefer Federal shield. Black jigged bone, ebony, or fancy acrylic would be OK.

Congress Jack for me. Two-blade configuration as shown above. Tortoise shell acrylic with a bar shield.

Serve it up with a dirty Martini (blue-cheese stuffed olives a must) and that's a class act.

CJ for me, sheepfoot with pen secondary. 3 1/2" - 3 5/8", long pull on primary blade, extended spring on the pen blade and green jigged bone.

Congress Jack for me and just as is.........though Corey's idea of Tortoise Shell...superb

Who run Bartertown?

Wharncliffe trapper run Bartertown!

I would prefer two blades, but single blade would be cool, I would like to see what we come up with, price etc.
