Hooray! It’s off to the races!

Frank and I want to thank those forum members that offered to make up the Knife Selection Committee. We've made a choice out of an outstanding group that stepped up.

With much fan fare we announce that this years Selection Committee; bwperdue (Blaine) and knowtracks (Dave). Thanks guys for taking on this task.

We hope that some of the committee members from years past will be available for questions, if needed. Let us know if we can count on you. You know who you are…… ;)

As has been said every year up to now;
Let’s have fun!
Let’s keep it civil.
Let’s have fun!

There is a thread that was started in early January, http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/showthread.php/1024460-2013-Forum-knife, by silenthunterstudios. I'm closing that thread. Any future ideas should be posted here.
The ideas from that thread, along with those posted here, will be the basis for the polls that will start in a week or two (at least that is the plan). We’re a little ahead of last year, but not by much.

As was posted earlier, http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/sh...fe/page22/#429, Spark has agreed to be involved in the endeavor. We’re thankful that we have his support.

I think that everyone would agree, we’d like to select a knife that is memorable and chosen fairly by our community. We’re also aiming for a price that the majority can afford.

So … Let the good times roll!

Given that I'm knew to the forum:

How exactly does this work? And what were the previous year's knives?

If you go back to the earlier thread (referenced above) you will see multiple posts on previous years knives. Take a look through there and you'll be up to speed.

Keep an eye on this thread, future threads and subsequent polls that will be used to choose the 2013 Forum Knife.

As I've written before: let's have something we have not done before.

In other words, a single blade knife OR a single-spring knife. The former keeps costs down, the latter too.

Bone, almost always BROWN has been done before, as has stag, even wood has appeared once. So, delrin, smooth bone or bone other than brown?

Nor have we had stainless yet, but I don't mind what steel as long as it's good.

3 5/8" Platts center-swell barehead wharncliffe lockback; 1095 blade, ivory Micarta scales. Keep it under $150 and I'll take 2! :D

Congress Jack would be nice. I dont mind if its stainless but it has to be at least 154CM but my preference will always be 1095. Also, having 2 handle materials available would be nice. If cost is a factor than have one be a synthetic (for less money maybe) and the other be a premium natural, bone, stag, something.

I'm all in on just about any type of Jack.

Congress
Gunstock
Serpentine

Barring that, perhaps explore Damascus single blade options such as a TC 15 Barlow in Ebony.

I'm gonna go ahead and repost this picture here in this thread...big fan of this frame, would love to see a forum knife in a single spring variant using this frame

And whatever the knife turns out to be, can we PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE have all steel hardware (pins/liners and bolsters/shield would be nice too)

HALF CONGRESS, sorry didn't mean to shout, I'll be watchin' this thread closely any help I can offer keepin' an eye on the polls, what ever I can do.

Just glad the official thread has started.

I'm staying the heck out of this. Last year I voted and made a few points of interest on the knife, wanted what we came up with, posted in the order area and got upset when my knife didn't arrive when they were being mailed. I investigated and realized I never PAID for it! I felt like such a D.A. So, for being a D.A. last year, I'll just wait and see what you all come up with then order and really pay for it!

I did the same thing. Luckily I was able to pick one up in the marketplace without any markup.

Hey guys, I'm with wiilgoy here, I think a single bladed knife would be a wonderful idea, on the line of the work of T.A. DAVIDSON or Ken Coats

Anyway I'll be good with what the community decides but I have a request for you, let's try to make it usable like the 2011, because I love the look of the 2012 and is very well built with that thin grinds, but guys is really uncomfortable in hand because of the wharncliff.

Here's a few links to post polls for choosin' the pattern, first link is for the 2011 Forum knife, the EO Jack.

Here's a similar thread to this one started for the 2013 started for the 2009 Barlow before we knew it was gonna be a Barlow.

For those new to this process these are two good reads to give you an idea of what to expect here, one last thing I'd like to mention, these guys are all volunteers so please be kind and patient, they have lived outside of BFC.

Now let the fun begin. BTW, thanks for takin' this on Dave and Blaine, again if I can help in any way let me know.

ANYTHING but the knife pictured!!!!!! I'd even take a box-cutter before that one.

As usual, I'll buy at least one forum knife not matter what the final decision.
