2013 Forum knife?

Sounds kinda like that sweet Ankermeser you have ;)
Yeah, I guess it does, kinda. ;)
(Really, I was thinking that the Ankermesser could only be improved by an additional half-inch to 3/4" in length. Built on a 4" or 4.125" frame, it would be a serious work knife. Maybe with a little sway to the back, as well. Kinda like the old Schrade I posted in the "most gracefully aged knife" thread.)

Aha!
AAAaaaaand, we already have seen GEC make a sorta-swayback frame, in roughly the right size (Hay'n'Helper), so they already have the tooling. Bolsters & no caps, ebony or cocobolo, lanyard hole, classic purist-approved tall sheepsfoot blade... A fella can dream........

Great suggestions so far! I'd still like to see a Doctor's pattern: spear & spatula, spear & pen--makes no nevermind to me...

But the GEC #15 platform seems to be gaining popularity. Might be worth considering..

Kind of a wild card idea but what about a Victorinox somethingorother with classy wood covers? Maybe an alox in a unique colour with BFC etched on the master blade? Might be able to keep the cost down going with SAK? I dunno. Just tossing it out there. :)

I've recently found myself stuck on the idea of finding something similar to the Schatt & Morgan XIX Harness Knife just with a single ~3-3.25" blade.

Since the knife and awl/punch are on opposite ends, I would assume it is a slightly slimmer design than when they're side by side.

Even if this wasn't the BF2013 choice, if anyone knows of a model out there in this range, many thanks if you point me towards it. ;)

I see what you did there...

On a more serious note, do we have a list of previous forum knives and their features, so people can make make suggestions that haven't already been done?

Somewhere in this thread there's a list and pic of all the past forum knives.

I'll wade through it...sigh...

Nah, this'll be fun!

Edit to add:

Ted, you tricky dude! You posted the pics of all the previous knives!

This is first year I feel really "all in" on enjoying many things, including my hobby, so I'm pretty excited to see where this year's knife end up!

In the past we have tried to come up with a pattern and then find a company who is willing to work with us. I too would like to support the "new" Queen, but I also want us to get a good deal that is fair to the company that makes the knife and gives us a quality knife at a reasonable price. So far, I think we have been quite fortunate to have the knives we have come up with at the prices we have been able to work out.

I agree, the GEC knives have been really reasonable! And great to boot!

swayback jack would be interesting, or a congress with 4 different blade styles like spear, coping, pen and clip.

How about a large swayback single blade with a wharncliffe blade?

Edit to add: Or a small pen/jack with scissors as the second "blade"?

Edit again to add: And tortoiseshell or ebony covers.

Pretty new to traditionals, but doing my best to read and catch up.

From all I have seen suggested so far my choices in order would be:

Serpentine
Congress Jack
Sodbuster

If we can keep costs down by using an established pattern, single spring, two blades or less, then perhaps we could look to a handle material like elk. In the interest of moving away some what from the darker knives of the past.

Edit: Osage Orange and Desert Ironwood seem to be rarities on GECs. An EO 85 in Osage Orange would be grail-like to me.

Just my humble opinion. I will buy any made regardless of which.

OK - so I just read through all the pages of this thread. The half-congress idea looks pretty convincing.

I would also like to express interest in helping with the project when we get to that stage.

I don't want to muck up the river here, but I've been really into the idea of GEC's 71 in the Linen Canvas Micarta. Preferably with the bullnose. Okay, I'll go away now.

Anybody advocating micarta for a change, should be taken seriously! Something not done before, something very durable, something that actualy looks wonderful on a Traditional knife. Makes a change from brown bone.....

urza, nice idea but I'm pretty sure it's a two spring pattern.

Man, I was hoping someone could make a single spring version of this. :(

Oh well, I went ahead and ordered a Tidi #54 Harness since it looks closer to the blade size I wanted, I'm sure it will be great even with two springs. :)

At the mention of Micarta handles, I can't remember who posted it, but I saw a GEC Knife with (iirc) "Christmas Light" Acrylic posted in the forums. Given the time of year these usually ship out, I thought it might be fun to do that one year for the handle materials.
