So, after the awesome "tactical pack" offered from Kershaw last holiday season with the Brawler, pen and LED flashlight, I was definitely looking forward to the bundle that would be on the shelves this year. If you have been by the local Walmart, you will notice that the 2013 holiday bundle is starting to appear. I used the heck out of my Brawler from last year, and plan to do the same with the TWO knives in this year's pack. The same flashlight as in last year's pack is included as well.

This time around you will be getting a fully blacked-out Kershaw Freefall and Swerve, both manual flippers, both sporting 3Cr13 steel. Now, I just picked up mine today, so no carry or use time to speak of, but after holding both they are quite comfortable in hand, flip reasonably well and come razor sharp of out the clam shell. The spanto grind on the Freefall is pretty nice, and the swerve looks to have a good amount of belly on it. Neither are spring-assisted, with stonewashed blades of 8Cr13MoV as seen in the original production models, but for the price this is a great chance to give both a try since individually, the pair would run you around $50. So, for $20, I find it hard to argue with a couple of excellent budget flippers from Kershaw. And, if they end up not being your thing, they sure would make great stocking stuffers.

Mine have terrible blade finish, the one with the tanto has a very uneven bevel and neither will flip no matter how loose you make the pivot. Also, I thought FRN was the cheapest feeling and slipperiest stuff known to man until I got my hands on whatever this k handle crap is. Exactly what I expected for the "overseas line" to be sold at Walmart TBH.

I think you should save yor $20. Plenty of great Kershaws out there for that price, just not these.

I picked these up a day or two ago. They are WELL WORTH the price. They don't flip without pushing the flipper, but if you push the flipper they open great. Both of the blades were flawless factory edges with the exception of a small rough spot at thhe very bottom of the swerve near the spanish notch. They both push cut printer paper, but I can actually push cut paper towels and toilet paper with the swerve. It is very very sharp for a factory edge on a 20$ knife. The Swerve is definitely sharper than the Free fall. They are both listed as 4.8 ounces, but the swerve felt heavier initially - after learning they are the same weight, I cannot feel a difference any longer.

Actually, after closer inspection there isn't a perfect edge on the swerve from the sweep to the tip, but it's closer to being perfect than any 10$ knife I have ever owned. We're all knife enthusiasts here, and I feel like anyone that would recommend against this package for 20$ has some kind of hidden agenda lol. They really are value buys. I can't wait to see people start modding them and stripping / stone washing the blades.

The Flashlight isn't a Cree (it is one of the LEDs with multiple bulbs), but it's basically a free packet light when you consider the knives.

I've been seeing people post about these recently. I stopped by 2 wally worlds and nothing haha.

I am definitely interested in this pack, though. 2 Kershaws for $20? How can you beat that?

NinjaRyder, you have me confused. You say they are 3cr13 ( that's 420j) and later say they are 8C. Which are they?

Thanks,

Joe

Sorry for the confusion. I actual say that "neither" are 8Cr13MoV. I was mainly pointing out how these are different from the original production models.

The production Freefall and Swerve are Speed-assisted, with stonewashed blades, in 8Cr13MoV steel

These two versions are manual, black blades in 3Cr13

Hope that clears it up!

I'll never quite understand why Kershaw puts out knives that have the same build quality of a cheap chinese knockoff. Why produce something so low-quality that you risk damaging the image of your brand?

Cheap black coating, butter-soft steel, brick-like weight for the size... If my first Kershaw had been one of these, I would have entirely avoided the brand afterwards.

Not everyone is an enthusiast, they will sell a ton of these. It's like Mercedes offering a cheap car to get people in and move them up the brand.

And I think I remember that Kershaw sells more knives through Walmart than any other means combined.

I'm sure Walmart wanted something super cheap and Kershaw can't bite the hand

Economics, simple economics. The answer is in bold.

I'd assume it's to compete with the knockoffs. If you had the choice between getting a Chinese fake or a KErshaw for the same price, why not go for the one from Kershaw with a great warranty?

1. Because someone who puts as much thought and consideration into buying knives as you do is extremely rare. 2. they want to sell a lot of knives/sell at wal mart

That's just how everything is at wal mart, if your business sells products to wal mart they make the rules not you. They want to sell product for the a low price and make the best margin they can, they don't care about quality. they're famous for making good brands look bad. They do it with everything from food to tires. If kershaw wants to have their products in wal mart they will have to bow down and play their game. those 2 knives were extremely cheap to make.

I remember when I was getting new tires, the guy at the shop said told me that people would want them to match WM's prices. He said that although WM would have tires that were the same Brand and Model #, they would have thinner tread so they were cheaper to manufacture and could be sold at a lower price.
WM has some Gerber and traditional Buck knife gift sets on sale right now. I didn't an American flag on the Buck box, so they were probably cheaper imports as well.
That's why I got my nephew a Case XX Mini Trapper for his 1st Birthday!:D He isn't carrying it yet though.

My experience as well. 4 WM, no kershaw sets.

The only good part about last years was the pen. The flashlight was one of those that you get for free from Harbor Freight, and the knife is a pile of crap.

Still, probably worth $20, at least to someone.

I got one at the Walmart in Crowley, so if any Texans in the area are interested, there you go.

As for my opinion, not bad, but still, $10 knives. They don't flip well at all, but they have thumbstuds as well, better to just use those based on the pack I got. I probably will get the version of the Swerve that's sold individually, and just stick with this version of the Freefall.

Dang...Crowley is a good 7 hours from my neck of the woods. I guess they're gonna find their way down here eventually.
