2013 -Knife Hunter Big Buck Contest!---winner-KDSTRICK

Could not agree more Lora, out here stands are not very common at all, much of that is about the we we grow up hunting but also that it is very hard to find a nice straight tree to attach a stand to !! So many of our eucalyptus trees grow looking like they are on speed !!! And in other places where the trees may work you can't (public land) erect a stand... I do however carry a nice foam pad for my butt these days...the ground seems to be getting colder and harder I as get older.... ;)

adding a pic of the Grand Prize:)

Plus a little buck that came in too close right at dark. Unfortunately for him I was getting ready for a trip to bow hunt Illinois a few years ago and I needed the meat and the practice:)

I doubt I will be in any kind of running here. My last deer hunt was nearly 20 years ago. I keep saying I am going to go every year, and just don't.

I will consider it this year, but it is always so hard to get away, with the limited time, limited budget and two small boys.

add a Buy Brown Sheath to it Brother, on me, great give away.

Hey Andy, what's up with the cunning family resembelance :p

Nothing we have in central Texas will come close to winning, unless I take out the neighbor's 2000 lb Longhorn with a 7 ft spread. :D (Gig'em Aggies.) Our biggest deer around here look like German Sheppard on stilts.

I don't know, I have seen some very impressive horns on those little deer.

Is this an antler Christmas tree?

It's an antler tree @ the hunting cabin. I would so much as say it was a Christmas tree cause it stays up all year round. Mostly mine a few are the kids...just something to do w/ what ya can't eat !!

Ok, well I know the guys at the shop havent had much luck so far this year although its still real early.

I havent even had a chance to shoot my bow, and dont have the access to all the great hunting spots I had in VA so I doubt seriously if I'll even get to compete in my own contest;):D

So, how the heck are the rest of you doing?:)

Virginia?? Where in Virginia did you used to hunt, if you don't mind me asking Trevor? I thought you lived in South Carolina? Just curious, I happen to know a little about Virginia:D Hope I can get some time to hunt in the upcoming weekends myself, but with midterms coming up, I am pretty pressed for much time to do anything!! Norfolk is certainly not the place to do any hunting anyway. At least it isn't supposed to be  Have to go back to good ole G-town for that!

Brother, I hunted mostly in Haymarket and I had 40 acres surrounded by the Manassas Battlefield. Mostly in Prince William and some in Loudoun county. Ive seen 20 -30 deer in a day and sometimes large herds of 10-18 at a time. Good genetics and lack of hunting pressure allowed a good many of the bucks to reach maturity and get big.

This here while no record book buck the events of the day and the tale of the hunt insured he made the wall. This is Mr Hightower:D

just before we loaded him in the truck

and the next day prior to caping him out

most of these racks came from the same area within a few mile radius

and believe me I saw some monsters that I couldnt get a shot at that would have made this one look small not to mention some that others had taken
