In light of John Lloyd's comment, and his position as donor of the stag, I'd be happy with a chance for a barehead GEC. But either way I'd be in for a single-blade GEC, with end cap or not.

IMO, the barehead jack would be different than what GEC already makes...I'm excited about this forum knife, whatever it is, but in a sense, we're getting an American Jack with the GEC if it is capped on both ends.

The drawings of the GEC knives presented at the beginning of this thread/poll clearly show endcaps. If one of the GEC knives wins the poll then the forum knife should have endcaps. No re-polls!!

Agreed. Besides, if GEC holds true to form they will eventually release different iterations of this new pattern. Perhaps the organizers could mention the interest in a barehead when they place an order for the forum knife.

one of my old bosses was a keen punter on the geegees- He'd listen to races on the radion on Saturdays .When his horse was looking like winning he would be perched on the edge of his seat with the form guide rolled up like a jockeys whip and be urging that horse on in spirit.
The funny thing is he was the size of 4 average jockeys..I can see him now. C'MON SINGLEBLADE...C'MON SINGLEBLADE....

For what it's worth, the CSC is more to my taste due to the size but it's going to be a GEC and that's fine :)

Further; I am in agreement with Ed, it is what it is.

The mods and Charlie carefully worked out how the system was going to go and then Charlie explained how it would work with him at the helm this year. We were provided with four fantastic versions of the 2014 traditional forum knife in stag scales kindly donated for free. We were offered both 1095 or 440C in barehead options by one of the manufacturers, but they haven't been the majority choice. Ce la vie.

I was very lucky last year in that I got almost exactly what I wanted. This year, I would not go for the GEC design if it hadn't been the forum knife, but I am happy none-the-less because I think we're lucky to have one at all. I would imagine that if this goes well (and so far it has been relatively smooth) Charlie will agree to do next years, or at least having set up a successful platform some other kind benefactor will step up. I worry that if there is further discontented chatter about "I think it would be better if..." and "if we ask them will they change..." then next year won't happen at all.

I think that the process has been superb so far and I'm happy with the outcome should it be any of the four entrants. Many thanks to those who are making it happen.

the selection and quality of all contenders this year is really great, and I'm impressed with the organization of Mr Waynorth and everyone's willingness to aim for consensus this year. I've abstained from voting in the remote chance that when the time comes I won't be able to afford it (though the proposed price is also very reasonable, there are sometimes other practical expenses that get in the way of the knife budget), that and the difficulty of choosing between the 4 excellent patterns.

Yep, unless all of the 2-blade folks have been waiting until the last minute to vote, looks like this one is decided. I generally prefer 2-blade jacks but I'm in for one of the single-blade models.

Even if my wife and all 3 cats were to join up and vote, I don't think we could sway the vote. :D

Similar, but not the same, Armando. The squared, lined bolster gives the knife a different character. The American is more of a sleeveboard.

looks like GEC single blade for the win... Cant wait. have wanted a GEC for a while now and this will be a good way to get my first. any idea when we might be able to order?

Looks like the single blade is goin' for gold! Even though I voted for the GEC dbl., I am happy that the single is looking to be the winner. Mine will probably be a safe queen anyway.

I find myself carrying a single blade knife more often now that I've introduced to the Sheepfoot Charlow.

O'course there is something special about a stag single:

Well, if the majority had voted for the CSC version, we'd have had a barehead jack for the 2014 Forum Knife. Kinda looks like people voted the brand and not the knife this year.

GEC has really catered to the traditional knife enthusiast. Their hard work developing so many patterns and putting out quality and customer service has paid off. I can see why they have loyal fans.

That being said, I would really like the CSC in 1095 and ebony.
