Thanks for the opinions and education on 440C, fellas. I don't know if I would change my vote from 1095 carbon, but it helps to hear positive opinions about the 440C.

440c is an excellent steel for pocket-knives: not difficult to sharpen really, retains remarkably and no endless blotching/spotting. If it comes with glaze, matte finish it is particularly applicable. Carbon is established, certainly has its place but it's really uplifting that at last the carbon fetish monopoly seems to have been broken - at least this once:D:thumbup:

Thanks to everybody, Will

What was the final count guys? I decided not to vote. While I'm a sure carbon fan, I'm kind of glad that stainless won, as it gives our stainless fans something they'll like, and kind of resolves things for me personally. While I like the look of Eric's shadow pattern, neither knife is really my cup of tea, and I have plenty of knives that don't get carried enough already. If it was a question of having to make up the numbers, I'd throw in, but I think those days are long gone here, and I'm sure that whichever knife is chosen, it'll be oversubscribed, particularly since it's likely to be sold at a great price. I just want to thank Team Charlie for all their efforts on our behalf, both now, and in the months to come. After this one is done, I hope there'll be a respectful pause before folk start clamouring for another forum knife. Charlie has already said that he'd like to take a break in terms of next year's forum knife - if there is one - and I think we should all respect that. Charlie, Barry, and everyone else have donated a lot of their time and hard work to ensure that The Porch gets their chosen knife, and they deserve huge gratitude for that
