Could someone indicate how the poll is going for those of us who haven't voted please (the results only show after you vote)?

The poll is open to anyone on the forums. I notice that the post topic does not mention the word "Traditional," nor is there any indication of that in the first post. It just says "2015 Bladeforums Knife" which could imply the entire site.

So there may be any number of people voting who are not interested in actually owning the knife, or even participants of the Traditional subforum here. If they are finding the thread from the "New Posts" link they may think they are voting for some general interest knife.

A valid point I think John, we often get general posters posting in the threads here, not realising they're in the Traditional subforum.

I voted 1095 a long while back but didn't post. But I'll be buying whichever steel is used. I am surprised by the voting ratio though.

Most people here tend to prefer Carbon Steels, but I think right now everyone realizes it's time for a SS forum knife for a change.

I hope both these knives get made by the manufacturers after the fact. This is my perfect pattern and blade combo but I cant help but want it in carbon. Any Stainless is just not steel I desire right now.

This question is for all of the members who say similar things such as "I have no desire for any stainless steel", and it is purely curiosity not an attack. Why not? Why do you only want carbon steel when there are so many other quality steels, both established in the industry for decades and just now entering the market, that you could try?

I can't speak for everyone else, but at this point in time 440C just doesn't appeal to me. :(

Funny thing. I've purchased every Traditional Forum knife, and I don't like to carry carbon steel folders. For me it's about supporting this community. YMMV.

And in the end you will have a very nice collection.
I'd be really genuinely interested to hear why you have no interest in 440c/stainless.

I'm really not going to be contradictory, or confrontational, or anything like that, I just don't know anyone in person who shares the very prevalent sentiment here that stainless is to be shunned or not considered worthwhile.

I asked this a while back in the original thread. Was curious if it was a desire for patina or ease of sharpening or what. Not sure I ever got an answer though. Curious also.

I didn't vote and it allows me to see the results. I just click the view results button and it shows the current results.

For me, it's probably just a phase. I only bought stainless until 2012. Then I started buying 1095. I like the patina. Looks like my grandaddy's knives. I love the ease of sharpening. But next year I'll probably start another stainless phase. It's kind of like getting in a rut ordering your favorite food at a restaurant every time you go there. [emoji12]

Its so easy to sharpen 1095 and it keeps a great edge. I have owned a lot of knives and most used to be modern. I have used high end steels and such in the past. Maybe its the grind and blade stock but 1095 on a traditional works great for me. I can field sharpen if needed with even a rock. The patina is a nice bonus, I enjoy watching my knife age. I live in the south, sweat every day I work, my pockets can get soaked. Sure if I forget to wipe my blade off it will have some rust dots the next day. It wipes of easy, you cant feel any pit left behind, just some character. So I ask, why stainless? :)

Fair enough and thanks for the answers. I guess for me I like stainless because I don't really like spots and patina on a new knife. I have some old knives that it looks good on, but the whole stabbing it in a potato to make a pretty new knife look old doesn't appeal to me. I understand how people like it though. I guess I just dont like a new knife to look old just because it's traditional.
