2015 Northwoods Indian River Jack Smooth White Bone Review

This is one of those threads that I cringe reading, but turns out nicely in the end. :)

Lovely knife that one. One question. Do you prefer a very heavy pull? I've never understood the appeal, but everyone is different. Knives with a heavy pull get left half open for a while in my house.

Gary, if you're pulling the diamonds out of the nickel, you might be using too much pressure. I bet you already know that though! :)

Jim, here are the pics of my IRJ in bone. My fit and finish is very similar to yours. These are definitely users and the issues you had with the fit and finish seems to be consistent so I wouldn't worry too much. Mine is with me most days and fits in the coin pocket on my Levi's perfect.

Thanks guys. I do like a heavy pull, but not a nail breaker. The IRJ is loosening up a bit and it will be just right in a few years LoL. The pull is not surprising in comparison to older knives I've owned and used from the old school New York and Pennsylvania Cutleries. Just a great pattern and a traditional knife that will break in nicely.

I've gotten tons of compliments from those who have seen it. Everyone thinks it's an awesome pocket knife. I'm sure some are on a mission now to own an IRJ just as I was.

And I've really been enjoying using the leather pocket slip. The knife rests snugly in the slip and I insert the slip in my pocket upside down with the Northwoods/KSF imprint toward my leg ... for two reasons. One, my hand doesn't catch on the opening of the slip each time I reach in my pocket and two, the imprint side will receive the least "punishment" over time and look nicer longer when I lay the knife and slip on the table before retiring at night.

That's a nice one AusLoX !!! :)

BrotherJim, typically when I place an order with KSF, I indicate in the notes/comments section that I'd like the knife to be inspected for fit and finish issues before it is shipped out. And every time I receive a knife from them, the order copy has a pen check mark besides my "please inspect" comments. And needless to say, every knife has been flawless.

KSF indeed has an excellent CS, and I am one happy camper. Enjoy your IRJ, it's a beautiful knife. :-)

So this is a dead thread, but I found it helpful and I wanted to add a point of view as someone who read this long after the drama ended. I can definitely understand that Derrick made an excellent offer for Brother Jim to return the knife for a refund. However, I can also understand Brother Jim's point of view. When you have your heart set on something like this, a refund is a bummer. After all, he spent the money to have the knife. The knife was the desired end state. I know that once a limited run is finished, that's it. So if you got a bad one.. Oh well. I think brother Jim's frustration was understandable, and I also think that it is important that feedback like his be heard so companies can understand shortcomings and improve services/products. I'm grateful that brother Jim took the time to give an honest assessment, and in no way will it effect my love of northwoods knives, but it will make me aware of things to look out for when I make my next purchase. I also am very happy to know that Derrick takes so much pride in his company that he is willing to give direct feedback and offer the best possible solution under the circumstances. All around, this was a great thread. I learned a lot. Thanks.
