2016 GEC Rendevous Dates

I never thought old Earl was going to make it home to the US! He must feel like Odysseus after his long journey! :D

Hey P, did you see that guy again? You know, THAT guy?!

Thanks, guys. :D

Ahhhh! New adventures for Earl. Looking forward to what you have planned ~ P.

I never thought old Earl was going to make it home to the US! He must feel like Odysseus after his long journey! :D

Whether due to trauma and fatigue from his life on the lam, or simply an outworking of his abiding fickle fancies, EARL did not remain long with me, eschewing the possibility of renewing old family connexions and/or kindling fresh friendships...

... for the chance at increased exposure elsewhere: EARL abandoned me almost immediately upon receiving word that TheApostleP was interviewing Esnyx for a youtube.com videos. [EARL of course promptly crashed said video shoot.]

I ask you.

[I was way excited to learn that EARL was on the premises, and glad I got to play with him at all. I love the hand-to-hand friendship he represents. He looks even better in person; his letters are far more cleanly-chiseled than I'd gathered by pictures alone. Earl himself did a good job on EARL. :)]

Hey P, did you see that guy again? You know, THAT guy?!

No(!), although someone else believes he spotted him. {{shudder.}}

~ P.

Wow, I thought I was jealous before! :D
So cool.

Great pictures everyone! I'm sure hoping to get there next year (I think I said that last year too).

It sure is neat that Earl made it!

I was quite sick, but very glad I made the trip to visit and meet some of the people who make this place great! On my first day, I drove in finally around 6pm on thursday and met Sarah(Pertinux), Charlie(Waynorth) and his wife Joann, Lyle, John (Augie) and his wife Donna. They had dinner and invited me to join them, to share and discuss. They also warned me, "Jack, you gotta show up at 7am to get the rendezvous knife, if you want it"
I couldnt make it to this place on time on all Friday or Saturday :D

Still, met some great people, saw some very nice knives. Some old guy sold me one of these when he saw how disappointed I was when I asked Christine and Patty about the 151114 that was listed on the cabinet was long sold out also might be missing the red soup bone on auction (I mentioned I already had 200 bucks committed but losing anyway) because of the drive home, :D

Patty immediately helped me wrap this up,

she also fixed a little problem I had with my modded 48,

Here is almost every one at the picnic,

(charlie discussing knives with Augie (John) and some fellas, Lyle was paying attention :D)

and no rendezvous would be right without a toss game!

And here are some of my goodies I scored from GEC :D (things not included are some beer scout glasses)

They were right, had to show up at 7am to score this, some others would show up even earlier! I didnt make it on friday morning nor saturday, but Lyle did, thanks, Pal!

I like how this example represented the slim chances I had of getting it :p

All in all, I am glad I made the journey from NYC even though I was under the weather. To meeting new people and making new friends, thanks Charlie for selling that knife, the stories, and breakfast. Thanks Lyle, for the stories, for driving me around on saturday, and making sure I got that rendezvous knife and home safe. Thanks everyone else who showed up and making the '16 rendezvous a great experience for me!

Great post, Jack. Thanks for sharing all that and congrats on the great scores!

You're gonna enjoy reading that book. I have a copy and I found it very interesting. So much so that I'll probably read it again sometime.

Nice report Jack. Maybe next year I will make it. Perhaps you would consider carpooling together with this Long Islander.

Very good post Jack, Donna and I enjoyed meeting you, we did have a great time.

Thanks, this was only a brief summary, I was just curious how much room I had. Id share the adventures with Lyle!

That TC is nice Jack. Is it soup bone?

think so, in my eagerness, I just said yes right away to Charlie when he asked hey Jack want to buy a knife. only now am I looking it up, soup or maybe 3rd cut stag. Im fine with either. Glad I didnt have to worry about the auction and not getting one for my collection tho

I don't think I have seen a long pull 3rd cut stag before, but it sure looks like yours might be one. Could be a very rare knife there Jack.

I may have to put you in a story kid! The best part about the Rendezvous is seeing everyone again, meeting Forum acquaintances in person for the first time, and sharing our passion for traditional knives.

Loved meeting Charlie's better half, Joanne, in person, those two make an extraordinary whole.

I missed Bob Andrews.

Thank you Bill,William,Chris,Sue,Patty,Randy,Nancy,Jimmy,Tracy, Kayla, and all the folks at GEC I have missed for this wonderful event.

I have quite a knife and some pictures to post when I get lined out.

Jack and everyone that has posted your experiences from the rendezvous...Thank you!!! Duncan and I will be there for sure next year:thumbup:

We are going to do our best to recruit Dave (Knowtracks) Mark (Markesharp) and others:thumbup:

Maybe if you write the story good enough, Bill will call the knife Brooklyn Jack!
