So many fantastic entries this year! They are all very impressive but the simplicity of the Morrison Cutlass Bowie just sings to me.

Agreed.

I love darn each each and every one of these, and some are downright jewels, but Will's piece strikes emotional chords in me. Gotta go with your heart, I guess.

Such wonderful choices

For me there are two that stand out and they are both distinctly different pieces

I must ponder this awhile :)

Congrats to all that made it

Thank you Roger and Lorien

It is Morrison for me this year. Like I said before, it was my choice the first time I saw it. Stunning piece. All are exceptional, but Morrison just nailed this piece.

Congrats to all finalists. These are all outstanding in their own way. The Ben Squared collaboration caused me considerable second thought about my vote as I like everything about that knife so well.

But I have to pick Mike Quesenberry's dogbone bowie as the winner. It's about as perfect as a handmade knife can get. He really puts the 'master' in mastersmith.

Congrats again to all the finalists.

The Quesenberry for the win. Apparently, you can teach an old dog(bone) new tricks. ;) Under normal circumstances,I would have likely picked the B Boys collaboration project out of the finalists, but to my eye, Mike did something similar to what Herr Wieland did a few years back when he won. He brought something new and amazing that managed to stand out in a large group of ridiculously fine blades to a degree that some who don't even favor the style voted for it anyway.

Congratulation to all the finalists. Very hard choice indeed...

But I also have to go with Mike Quesenberry's dogbone Bowie. They all pretty much look perfect but to attain perfection at that level of complexity. Just WOW!

Cogratulations to the finalists. For me, it came down to Will and Mike. In the end I chose Mike's. It's just masterful.

Excellent assembly of blades - all bowie fans would no doubt consider themselves fortunate to own any one of these. For me, it came down to Quesenberry v. Fuegen. Frankly, it has been between these two for me since they were nominated. I didn't think I'd see a knife that could unseat the Quesenberry, then Coop posted the Fuegen and put me squarely on the fence. I'll still have to give the nod to Mike in what is as tough a call as I have faced in a final vote. The shear audacity of conceiving and attempting an integral dogbone combined with the spectacular success in execution make this one an irresistible force for me.

I am with Joe P on this one. Two that are in contention and so distinctly wonderful in my opinion. I will fret over it for a while.

Chris

I agree with several of you. It's hard to decide. Do I pick the one I like the best visually? The one that I respect the most as an expression of knifemaking skill? The one I'd most like to stab a pirate with? Going to have to sit on this one a bit.

Sat on it a while. The Ben's knife absolutely appeals to me the most, but it was too hard to argue that it was in any way "better" than an INTEGRAL DOGBONE. Went with Mr. Q.

I have to say that I think Mike Quesenberry's knife is the one that's most "John Whiteish" I prefer the Fuegen. Love the blade on the Morrison!

I'd like to add that the scabbards distract from looking at the knives.

Down to two, the CAS and the 2xBen.

I went with the 2xBen.

The ONLY reason we call a knife a "Bowie" is because of Jim Bowie's fighting success with a knife, on a sand bar near Vidalia, MS.

I doubt that the sharp piece of steel he carried that day magically ensured his success, but it surely started a craze that is still with us today. As nobody can say for sure what it looked like, our unbridled imaginations have been given free reign for almost two centuries.

The acid test for me, is a simple question. Which knife would I choose to use, in a life or death struggle, on a sand bar?

Will's knife is at a high level on the badass scale and beautifully crafted, but I voted for Mike's dogbone. It's just on another level....congrats, buddy.

This came down to a serious fight between Quesenberry and Fuegen, both of which I nominated in the first round. I would gladly own either one, and both are examples of what got me into bladesmithing in the first place.

I had to choose Larry Fuegen.......fast before the siren song of Mike's dogbone pulled me onto the rocks of indecision(again:p)

Tip of the hat to all the makers who entered this year. The bowie style is alive and well, and in good hands:thumbup:

All of these knives are exceptional - heck, even the "next 5" vote-getters were exceptional in my book !

Competition gets tougher each year for sure.

Having said that... Mike Quesenberry's dogbone integral is just an unbelievable piece...and I'm not even a dogbone fan typically;)

I've held that knife too, and it is "perfect" or as close to it as you will ever see.

Congrats to ALL the makers, not just the finalists - well done!

Thanks to Roger and Lorien as well
