Glad to see two of my finalists here. I chose the Quesenberry DB because I wish I owned it.

I had to vote for Will's Cutlass Bowie... Not that none of the others didn't have a similar affect, but I just could not help from saying, "Daayyamn" every single time I looked at it.

Congrats to all the finalists!

All excellent

It came down for me two very opposite knives

Mike Q's fantastic piece is wonderful ..... and I do believe he might be the finest maker in this genre that exists ..... plus I really like him :)

Or

Wills big Cutlass Bowie

In the end if I'm standing on that Sandbar....... I picked up Wills

Mike Q will win........deservedly so

Great stuff gentleman happy New Year

I feel just the same way. Well put, bud! 👍

Had to go with Mike's knife... it's immaculate on an almost hallucinatory level!
Plus he's a cool guy as well.

My sincere congratulations each and every entry. They were all winners, and I surely cannot argue with the finalists......all winners too,..............................you all know what John White meant to me and I feel Mikey took that Dog Bone up one more level. I know John is smiling and think you can guess who got my vote.

Outstanding year for Bowies!

Joe P. summed it up for me too!

The Morrison is the one I would choose!

Have a great 2017

I really don't like dogbone bowies, or any knife that is comprised of a lot of straight lines. That was one of the reasons why Sfreddo's bowie didn't make the cut for me, and the reason I didn't nominate this knife the first time around.

But Mike got all those straight lines to jive, (as well as anyone could've) and he did it in a way that is mindblowingly brilliant. All the details coordinate with one another and fit together into something that makes sense from a variety of perspectives- and even though this style of knife really doesn't do it for me, Mike did it to the max. No compromises that I can see

All the other finalists are damn fine examples of the cutler's art, (and Art, generally, imo) and I hope you're all very happy with yourselves, because what you made is really amazing.

what a great learning experience this thread is!

All are exceptional again this year. Congrats to all the entries and another congrats to the finalists.
This handful of makers are second to none with high design and execution skill levels. That said I think the details in the Fuegan bowie can only be accomplished from blood sweat and tears. The slow pace exacting hand work he put into this one won my vote.

It came down to two for me. Mike Q's and Larry F's. The decision was tough. It came down to elements of difficulty. No way to denie that both are incredibly difficult knives to make but to my mind the separation came at the amount of elements that were difficult. Because most knives that are so highly embellished look like there is too much going on. The feat of pulling it all together to become one cohesive piece made the Fuegen my pick.

I was in the same boat as Roger. Every picture after Mike Quesenberry's dogbone got measured against it. The intricacy of detail in Larry Fuegen's knife is simply astounding. Blow up section after section of the picture and every detail fits and flows to the next. There was no way for me to vote away from it.

For me it was between Fuegen and Quesenberry. I am a longtime fan of all the work that Fuegen does but for me that Dogbone is the one that got my vote. Why? Well it is a fitting tribute to the great dogbones John made in his lifetime.

Clearly the Mike Q and the Fuegen represent a high level of mastery, time and skill. But the CAS and the Ben squared are the 2 I would collect and possibly use and in the end the CAS is my biased favorite.

Several have mentioned not being huge fans of dog bone bowies, and I would have to say I fall into that category. But...this piece by Mike just blew me away from the first time I laid eyes on it. Always tough choices here, but Mike made my decision easy this year.

Thanks again to Roger and Lorien for this great thread.

Thanks, gents, for all of your thoughtful contributions.

Thanks to Lorien for running this final thread.

And congrats to MIKE QUESENBERRY - maker of the 2016 John White Memorial Bladeforums BEST BOWIE!

This knife was the runaway leader in nominations, which has carried through in the final round voting. It's not often that we see a front runner pull away from such a deep, varied and talented field - but the momentum here was irreversible.

I have to say that my overriding thought from this thread - as it is every year - is what a great time we are all living in as knife enthusiasts.

Happy 2017 to everyone!

Thanks to Roger, Lorien and all the people involved in making this thread epic, as it always is.

Congratulations Mike Q. Well deserved!!

Chris

Huge CONGRATS Mike and so well deserved

Like I mentioned earlier

In my Mind Mike is at the very top in the best of the best

We are witnessing the rise of one of the greatest

Thank you Roger and Lorien

Happy new year everyone
