2016 Survive! GSO-5.1 compared with Swamp Rat Ratmandu and ESEE-6

Chiral, with the thickness and blade geometry would you have the same confidence with it was 20cv?

I never did try throwing my M390 GSO-4.1, and the work I did with the CPM-20CV NeckerII cutting apart a metal can certainly caused more edge-chipping/damage than the 3V GSO-5.1 experienced... So if the intended use requires maintaining an intact apex during harsh cutting of metal or carving hardwood, I think a slight micro-bevel might be needed for the 20CV... However, if the intended use is cutting soft or abrasive material without a lot of lateral stress to the apex, then the 20CV would probably be a better choice at this thickness.

I guess I should put it this way - I haven't tried the same things with 20CV that I have with CPM-3V. I would prefer this geometry for the tasks I commonly use a knife this size for, so if the 20CV requires thicker geometry to provide the requisite strength, I'd rather have the 3V. Add to this that 20CV's forte is its wear-resistance, thickening the geometry would hamper that substantially.

Hopefully someone with a 20CV 5.1 will put theirs to the test - measure the edge-geometry, then use it to carve seasoned oak or cut up metal roofing or cans and report on their experiences.

Looks like a nice knife but I'm not patient enough to wait for one :( he needs a serious investor to help out)

Thanks for the comment.

Irony - Survive! exists because of customer-investors. Guy put forth his designs, asked for feedback and anyone interested in a pre-order - that's how he got started, accepting full payment in advance and returning, after some months, the finished product to investors. As demand for his knives grew, it outpaced the production capacity (given that most of the manufacturing is contracted to various US vendors), and a lot of investors grew impatient with the delays in getting the knives they ordered. Guy ended the practice, only to re-open pre-orders in response to an out-cry from fans/consumers who demanded that he take their money, just to get a guaranteed knife. I certainly don't mind the pre-orders because I can afford to wait and now trust Survive! to deliver an excellent product in due time or refund my money.

However, backlash has been sufficiently harsh that pre-orders are coming to an end.

This knife is no longer available for pre-order HOWEVER it will now show up as available on the Survive! website every Monday - whatever blanks have been completed and sharpened and are ready to build & ship will be posted for sale and remain until they sell-out. You don't have to wait anymore! You just have to be really lucky, as there appears to be quite a pack customers stalking the site ready to snatch-up what is available as quickly as possible  In a couple of years, Survive! hopes to have the capacity to maintain a more constant supply of products for order fulfillment, but they are still quite young. Check back with them in a month or three and you may not need an abundance of patience :) We hope.
