I admit, I am one of those people!!! For this knife I went with Buckeye Burl and snakewood. But the snakewood would have to have lots of figure to it.

I went with koa and osage.
I think the aged osage Will posted looks great and if my blades can’t get a patina I’ll have to settle for the handles!

Overall want ANY Burl. If comes down to wire between koa and ironwood, choose koa.

I'm going OSAGE and OSAGE only at this point. I don't want to help front run another option because I'm really hoping for this one to be handled in OSAGE.

If it comes down to the wire and OSAGE isnt looking like the winner I may throw in with another wood I like. Needless to say, I'm hoping for OSAGE.

I had a 73 in osage and sold it. I'm sure it lasts forever but for looks it's one step above pine, ugh.

Osage Orange = Hedge = fence posts
The forum knife deserves better wood than the stuff I fence pastures with. It is super hard and durable tho, lasts decades in the ground.

Buckeye burl has moved into first place for me. I've always wanted a burl handled knife, and the pictures of Buckeye burl in this thread are just lovely.

Koa and osage orange are running a close heat for my second choice.

Since shockwood is still at zero: maybe some people don't know what it is and would actually like it(I certainly didn't know it(and don't like it )) Here's a picture from google. Schatt and Morgan did some slipjoints with it. The amount of resin seems to vary greatly from knife to knife/manufacturer to manufacturer

I just don't get this passion for Osage orange it seems mundane- looking to me. ??

Ha, I went just the opposite, koa then ironwood.

Seems like there has been more ironwood than usual lately and the figure doesn't always blow your mind. Koa flamewood just HAS to look awesome, right???
