I thought I'd get this ball rolling, given Mike's comments about getting onto production schedules for manufacturers in the other 2019 Bladeforums Knife thread.

There were lots of desires expressed in the other thread, but so far the only folks I noticed (please correct me if I am wrong) who were willing and able to work with a manufacturer were @knifeswapper and @Jack Black

The poll reflects the three manufacturers the two possible liaisons would be willing to work with as well as one we might persuade @skblades to work with again, and one popular fixed blade option that people mentioned. It isn't perfect, but it is a start, and if there is an overwhelming desire for something that isn't on the poll I'll add it, but naturally we'll have to find someone willing to work with that manufacturer if it wins out.

I voted for Sheffield for the same reason I voted for Buck this year. Not as a knock against GEC (my 2nd choice) because I have an affinity for them but because as the pre-eminent knife forum I feel we should experience the worldwide quality available to us.

I've been very impressed with what Mike and LionSteel have been doing with slip joint knives. I would really enjoy the opportunity to participate in the design of our own LionSteel. I believe we could collectively come up with an amazing knife.

I voted LionSteel but the Sheffield option really appeals to me too.

I voted GEC because I believe they can give us the best chance to get something truly unique in the world of knives and the logistics seem the easiest to deal with for the handler.

I did the same, though I’d be far from disappointed with Sheffield. I was hoping the Böker idea would gain traction, but it appears to have fizzled.

GEC has made some great forum knives.

I see the benefit of figuring out the manufacturer early, but isn't it important to first figure out what style the knife will be? This sort of seems like putting the cart before the horse.

Some manufacturers will only be able to offer certain patterns. If we spent a month finding a pattern and then couldn't get a manufacturer to make it, we'd be out of luck. However, I think there are potentially more pattern options with Sheffield than with Lionsteel, GEC, or Buck (which is why it was my first choice).

It was difficult choosing between GEC and Sheffield. Went with Sheffield on this poll because knife-making there goes back centuries, and I love tradition. I think I'd be just as happy with GEC, though, but had to pick one.

Lionsteel I am sure is great, but I hate the screws. I would pass this year if they were chosen.

We just had Buck, and they made a nice knife, but they don't do much variety in slipjoints, and there are restrictions for many regarding lockbacks.

I know nothing yet about Hess, so nothing to say about them.

Whatever is chosen is fine, but it would be nice to branch out and not get yet another GEC. We do that all year long. I chose Sheffield for its’ long established celebrated knife making history, as well as the confidence in Jack to do it right. Mike would do an equally fine job with Lionsteel(or GEC).

I'd boldly opt for Lionsteel, it's the contemporary Traditional with respect for the past and an eye for the future  before all you nay sayers start baying about screw just take a look at the threads here on their knives. Think of the enviable level of quality and the materials used, no question:thumbsup:

Additionally, Mike from Collector Knives has strong, proven connexions with them and GEC and Hess Knifeworks, this could result in a remarkable deal, he can also distribute them, 2 birds with one stone...

Dont we need to contact all said manufacture's first and see if they are willing or able to make a knife for us? We could then maybe get some options or limitations by each manufacturer and then vote based on this info?

I like all the options, I just want to know what is actually on the table from each first.

Another vote for Sheffield - because the history and craftsmanship is a great fit for a Forum Knife.
Lionsteel is my #2 because of the outstanding and innovative knives that are coming from CK.
Hess - I love a good fixed blade but I wonder about the probs that some might have with restrictions.
GEC of course makes a fantastic knife but I'd like to go somewhere else.
Buck (and SK - great job, thanks again) is my number 5 only because of the 2018 "been there, done that" factor.
