I haven’t been following the ‘19 Forum Knife chatter...I’ll be happy whomever makes it, as long as someone does...

Has someone offered to organize a fixed blade, Hess?

No one has offered. Mike mentioned that we would need to contact Hess to see if he'd be willing to take on such a big order, since he isn't a large manufacturing operation, I guess. Mike does carry Hess knives, so he might be willing if Hess is willing.

I voted for Sheffield. Wouldn’t mind one bit if we went with a Hess fixed blade. As others have said, it just doesn’t make sense to go with GEC unless they can break away from what they are already producing this year. (Don’t get me wrong - I love GEC) but Sheffield is the origin of so much of the USA cutlery and our options with them are apparently quite varied. I just don’t see a downside to Sheffield.

Last year this moved too quick for me to keep up with and it looks even quicker this year, considering the other thread. But I voted Hess because why not try something different.

More cardio, Logan, let's go! (*says the guys who wouldn't last five seconds on the mat)

I voted Sheffield mainly because I have little experience with the makers. I wouldn’t be at all disappointed with GEC (or the others for that matter). I would really like to see a fixed blade, I just can’t imagine that would gain enough traction.

I see Hess knives listed, so would that be a traditional fixed blade? If so, I'm in for that.

I to went with Sheffield, the history and tradition sway me. Not knocking any other companies, looks to me GEC has done an admirable job in the past. But as a traditional knife fan even though I don't have anything from any company past or present in Sheffield, I think it be neat to have a forum knife that comes from a tradition that predates any American companies. Same could be said of the Solingen region. Most if not all American cutlery firms can trace their roots to those epicenters of the knife world.
Well said, David.

The annual forum knife is the biggest headache I face on the forum. And I moderate across the whole place. Gary is similarly enthused with these projects.

The folks who are pushing this have no idea what has to happen. There are a lot of limitations to what we can do. But go ahead and talk about it. We'll have to see what options present themselves this year. The options may not support any of the choices that come up in this thread.

Fair enough. As long as guys enjoy talking about it and aren’t pressuring individuals to make things happen I’m happy just to help the discussion continue.

I trust you and the other moderators to make the right call if things get out of hand.

Enthusiasm and effort from members is what makes the knife happen. Not sure anything else is really needed, those qualities are good at overcoming obstacles.

Well theres only one thing weaker than the pound and thats the aussie dollar...so thats a non issue for me .Postage is also simply another of lifes penalties...no biggy.
The state of play thus far..
Enthusiasm -check
Energy- check
Manufacturer- pending
Distributor -pending
BF seal of approval -pending
Most other factors ....pending
I love how the ball is rolling this early in the year...what was last years kickoff? August?
I have questions.
Can Hess make this many knives in the time available ( approx 8 months)?
Has anybody approached them yet with regard to building possibly upward of 300 knives?
This might be the last sensible post I make on the subject so I'll end on a tempting titbit....They make fixed blades in Sheffield too.
With a yo heave ho and don't spare the lash ye crustaceous lubbers........oh no.

Hess. But since it doesn't stand a chance I switched to Sheffield. I think Sheffield would be an excellent addition to the annual BF knife round up. I'd ask the other Hess voters to also reconsider and select Sheffield.

With Sheffield's undeniably significant contributions to the world and history of cutlery, I'm almost shocked one hasn't already been done. It will be shameful if Sheffield doesn't top the poll.

Of course, GEC could be a Dark Horse here....you never know what new pattern they may unveil in a couple of months and it could set all jaws dropping :D Be amusingly ironic if it turned out to be their rendering of a Lambfoot;) all steel, small bolster, smooth or jigged bone
