This year, I think a big hunka knife would be interesting!! Who cares of it lays smoothly in your pocket? So what if it weighs down your pants, huh?? BIG is the answer, YESSIRREEE!!!:)
With walk and talk like a thunderstorm!!! Fills yer mitt!! Ya can't lose it, because if it hits the ground it goes "THUD"!!!:p
Capable of building a lean-to shelter single-handedly!!!;) Able to whittle down small trees!! Yeah!! That's the ticket!!
GRRRRRR!!!!!!:eek::eek::eek:
:D:D:D

I doubt that GEC is very interested in making the forum knife.

I keep seeing this particular sentiment get brought up. Has anyone actually spoken with Bill and GEC to confirm this?

It has been my understanding that they have always been thrilled to make the BF knife. I seem to recall Charlie saying as much not too long ago.

A slam poetry contest / poll for the forum knife? That would be a thread for the ages. Consider me on board.

Don't really know. But they pretty much limited a forum knife to the frame that they were scheduled to use to make their branded or knives for folks like Northwoods/KSF. I would be happy to have the next forum knife be a GEC product.

I don't think GEC has any issue or disinterest in making a BF knife but from a practical business standpoint the options are going to be more limited due to how they operate.

I think you just described the new '97' Charlie.

Sigh . . . . . .we are too late for the #97. . . . .:(

But I know GEC would be happy to make us a knife. . . .:) . . . . . .as long as it is something they will have on the schedule this year!!
Don't ask . . . .I don't know the rest of their schedule. . . ..
But I will bet we will find out as long as we are patient . . .;)!

I think they are happy to make a forum knife, as long as it is something they are already making, and it can just get squeezed into their production schedule. They're not going to change everything over just to run us a 400 piece special order.

Aye, Aye the question is what pattern
But then anon the choice to carry is what matters
The price excessive wreaks the wornout leather purse
and walk and talk and snap shows wounds to occupy a nurse!

Why fret about a pattern of cutlery company
when at hand paradise appears
availability is what matters to most and all welcome host
The Eighty Six is our saving choice

The Eighty Six provides
The Eighty Six delights, Hooray, Hooray!

I'd still like to see a Sheffield maker do this year's knife. The lower cost would present an opportunity to build in more features...fancy bolsters, more blades, pricier materials etc. and still stay within the budget of the cost-conscious members.

I don't comprehend the logic here? How does lower cost enable you to build in more features,multi-blades,fancy bolsters, costlier materials?? Most Sheffield made knives are basic, vast majority are single blades, 2 at the most, elaborate bolsters are rare, ditto costlier materials. In addition, as has been mentioned, potential warranty issues could be complex if there is no US dealer set-up to import the knives.

Sounds like Charlie is describing a Buck 110 (in CPM154 and with elk handles)!

GEC, Case, Lionsteel, Sheffield or (of course) Buck Knife - any will make me happy because they all make fine knives. But I really like the idea of a big knife too. OH
