It is the "Traditional Forum" knife. Seems fitting that it actually be traditional. That was a call made by Gary and me. A traditional knife will appeal to more members. A lot of members are turned off by "modern traditionals". The decision placed limits on what could be offered.

There are also limits due to the "larger than small, but not truly large" expected order size. Not all makers can handle that large an order. For others, it is too small for them to consider.

I, for one, would pass on a Lionsteel, as great as they may be.

To each their own. I would not expect everyone to be interested in the Lionsteel traditional pattern knives. That said I am greatful to Lionsteel and Mike for making them happen. They are among my most carried and used knives. That does not diminish my enjoyment of the more old world traditionally constructed knives.

As usual not everyone will be happy with what is settled upon this year. I just hope complaints don't diminish our options and the fortitude of those involved in making it to see it through. Whatever is decided upon I'll be happy to see it happen.

When it comes to "traditional" over "modern traditional", I would want the BF knife to be traditional with pins and not modern traditional with screws. For example:

I think it's doubtful GEC will offer any other patterns other than what they've decided on for the year. They arent big enough to lose the production for knives they already have planned, and not so small as to NEEEEEED that 400 (or so) piece run badly enough to do awkward contortions for it.

I voted Sheffield (weird, because nothing I've seen from England that's newer than ww2 era is worth much, f&f wise) because I think they'll make what BF wants, and they're a very "traditional" knife company.

We might wait till 2020 for the knives to show up if we dont get them on it within the first third of the year tho.

I want something with a punch/awl/eyeball pick. When do we get blade polls?

I have preferences for the BF knife.
I will not go into all those preference in this lame duck thread, except for the fact that if it DOES NOT have torx screws - I WILL NOT BUY ONE :D
But if the chosen knife does not tickle my fancy I will not buy it. If it does, I will.
I would expect no less from everyone involved.

I voted for GEC. I'm going to try to be more involved this time by posting as well as voting since I didn't have a large enough post count to purchase the 2018 model.

Screws should be OK, so long as they have a traditional head. Slotted screw construction knives have been around half of forever. I'd consider the Plow with slotted screws instead of torx to be fully traditional. That said, we're going to have a poll or twenty and I expect screws to lose in a landslide.

As before, I am generally satisfied with whatever the members and powers to be decide. I would love to see Lion Steel make this year's forum knife. But, I was pleased with the Buck and would be comfortable with that choice if it happens. I doubt that GEC is very interested in making the forum knife.

I would rather have "small" with two blades then large and a single blade from a cost point of view (unless it's a GEC knife). I'm also comfortable with pushing the cost up to about $120 if necessary.

I would not be surprised if there were a whole lot less polls than last year.......

i would be disappointed if each year moving forward did not exponentially expand the number of polls, and in fact added in new forms of interactions from the forum members (such as short clips of interpretive dances, sign language appeals to reason, spoken word poems in support of your opinions, etc.).

I think the Federal Code of Regulations should be the model for forum knife poll expansion.
