its a pity that there are so many beautiful Australian hardwoods that are dense ,very hard and smell good but it would cost a fortune to ship a couple of sleepers worth overseas..:(

Yes, that's a pity, a refreshing change too:thumbsup:

But due to your Herpetology addiction meako, and given that new avatar pic of yours with some monster gaping serpent....I thought Snakewood would be your natural harbour :D

Do you take that strangler with you when driving the bus?:eek::eek:

I like the mockups but Cocobolo, Jobillo and Ironwood should all turn out a little nicer than pictured.

I know this may complicate things a little, but I think the ideal situation would be for GEC to provide feedback on what they can procure, and whether its top quality or bland. I think the Mike and others who have SFOs might have experience with this?

For example, if GEC said - we are sitting on a big pile of absolute top class Cocobolo but the Ebony we have isn’t great, that information would sway a lot of votes.

waverave - thanks for all the great images! My preferences in order -

I don't think GEC will want to do snake wood, the last runs with snake wood have been shorted due to cracking and chipping. As Camillus stated it would be best to know what woods GEC wants to work with for this knife before polling.

Well, at least one good thing came about because of this poll, we won't have to have a poll for "Sunken Pin - Yes" or "Sunken Pin - No" because GEC is incapable of producing a smooth wood covered knife that doesn't have at least one sunken pin.

"No Shield" won last year.

Ebony is just plain boring anymore. Home Depot treated 2x4 is much more appealing.

Hopefully this'll give you an idea of what we've done in the past and it'll give you a reference to go ahead and help make your choices at the polls.

Not that there's too many more polls to go, after 13 years the process is movin' ahead just beautifully but you know me, any excuse to post more pics. LOL :D As luck would have it I just happened to take these this morning. :)

Thanks Ted! This is also helpful to see which shields have appeared so far. I was surprised to see how many different ones were used.

I'll take one of each but I'll need shields;)
Yes sir absolutely :thumbsup::thumbsup: I figured I'd wait until the shields poll to put those out there but if there is something you want to see let me know.

Where's the banner shield? Changing the pins to steel would make a few of us happy :)
When I see the available selections I will post one of each material with brass and silver pins and maybe one of each with a shield too.

Last run was fine - the DLT 14's. The only time in recent history I recall a problem was with the Snakewood 47 Viper lanyard hole.

Thanks for posting. Hopefully it's a contender to consider. Interesting history, unique, but used within the past few years. Throwing a curve ball here, but if GEC could char these like the charred beer barrel oak beer scouts it would probably be super cool.. charred oil suckered rod wood
You're welcome

The wood was used on oil rigs in Pennsylvania a loooong time ago... about 100-150 years ago. Gotta figure the trees were mature when cut, so it's some very old wood. Not sure if it was originally oak or what. Also not sure how readily available it is. I think I remember hearing that it was not hard for GEC to acquire.

Am I remembering correctly that they are brownish with a gray tint? You don't happen to have one of the TC oil sucker rod wood too?

Ironwood or Jobillo for me...fingers crossed they make the poll.
Ebony is great...buut it has been done before...and the result of the slab poll shows how close this race is running...its anyones game.
Thanks Will Power Will Power -This one would not make for a good travelling mascot driving a bus. I had another equal sized python of a different subspecies...much friendlier...sadly passed away overnight about a week after I was allowed to retrieve them from my former home after 19months of no access....the grudgingly minimal communication I received told me he had to visit the vet and have injections but was now in the clear and fighting fit...evidently just another in a long chain of falsehood...I asked for the vet so I could speak to them about it but the hurdle of communicating with me is insurmountable....it was too late that I was informed that Ozhad contracted Stomatitis...98%mortality in captive reptiles and caused by bad husbandry/cage maintenance. A beautiful snake ,very gentle and never hurt anyone....I was very upset to say the least...my Son is a snake dude and had the job of caring for 3 pythons -the one in my avatar is large and snappy and very powerful- ladelled on to him so i cant blame him he did a great job...but theres no way Oz would have become ill had I been in charge....rassen frassen frizzen fraggan.
