I like the jigged bone, but only when it’s jigged the way I like, which I assume is how most feel. I choose Ebony, because of it’s classic good looks, elegance, and toughness. There is more potential for disappointment when what the voters thought would be the desired type of jigging, never materializes. I also take note of how many are choosing jigged bone, despite saying how much they like Ebony. As for specifics, once we get past the slab pole, I can, after seeing some of the wood offerings, be swayed from Ebony.

Correct there is no assurance we would get jigging like that. I keep using it because I think it fairly represents the kind of jigging most folks would want (I took it directly from a photo of a Diamond Jack). I'll put a few more styles together so we can get a broader view of what jigged bone might look like on this pattern.

Agree, I would pretty much count on not getting that type of jigging. I've only seen it a couple times from GEC and it's asked about often. It's only on a couple few of Charlie's SFO's. Seems like every new run from GEC offers Jigged bone. We don't see Ebony that often.

Smooth wood gets my vote. Hoping for classic looking Ebony with a diamond shield. Pretty much like this mock up but all steel..no brass pins or liners.

Mark my words, if jigged bone wins 2 of every 10 knives will have rich gorgeous covers. The other 8 will be blah and 80% of everybody will half heartedly complain theirs doesn't have as much character as the lucky 10% resulting in 60% who will resell in 2 weeks after receiving. First line of those sale threads, "Not for me." Mark my words.

That is more than tolerable it's wonderful! But perhaps not obtainable? We need more info on that.

I wonder if any of the customizers on BF jig bone? If it's smooth wood I can jig it myself, but I'd hate to experiment on bone the first time with this knife if I didn't like how it came from the factory.

Meanwhile I hope the smooth bone folks will consider switching their votes to jigged bone . . .

If jigged bone or saw cut bone doesn't win out, I'm fine with wood. Wood will look classic on this hunk of steel.

Bone, wood, and stag reign supreme here in most cases.
Interesting but this is the only mention of stag in this poll or thread. I appreciate a good stag but, for the purpose of a group knife, I think it is in our best interest to stick with the other options. This is the closest poll thus far I think.

is this considered to be jig bone or a specific type of jig bone? very nice - I like pick bone too and have mentioned it before
It was simply called Chestnut Jigged Bone. Seemed to be a rare treat in jigging for that run.

Went for jigged bone because I’m hoping for a unique jigging pattern or texture. Or sawcut. I’m always good with sawcut.

My interest in traditionals has been piqued for a few years but nothing really jumped out at me, the last couple forums knives just weren't my style. I think you've single-handedly kept my interest up with your pictures in other threads and such, but when I happened to wander by and see the thread about the forum knife's base design I decided to start voting because I knew I was going to get one. I figure if I'm going to have a first nice traditional it may as well be a forum knife, I like supporting good causes and this seems like a great little venture. :)

Well, It is good to see you here and this is indeed a great knife to whet your teeth on. A larger knife with a useful blade style and the makings for a truly classic look, I hope it will suit your fancy and maybe encourage you to try out some other patterns.

I will bring a knife roll to the upcoming gathering and you can check out quite a few different ones.

I think you might be misunderstanding the nature of my comment. I was mostly referring to why micarta will generally not do well in these types of polls. Most folks here will prefer wood, bone, and stag as they generally are going to suit the traditional aesthetic far more than micarta will. I was not advocating having Stag be included nor does it appear that it would be an option anyway. I also would not be voting for it if it were an option. I love stag but it is such a big unknown that I cringe even thinking about the outcry in the end...

Sorry I wasn't insinuating that you were proposing it...just pointing out that it was the only mention, of any kind, in the thread about stag. Just surprised not many have mentioned that it isn't there :thumbsup::thumbsup: I completely agree with you.

Well, you're right as far as I am concerned, Dylan: wood, stag, or bone are my go-tos. Would have voted for stag if it had been an option. (Ivory would be ideal, but I know not realistic!). This was the most important poll to me. Now I KNOW that I will be buying one of these, unless acrylic or micarta come from behind and win, but I'm not really worried about that. I'm hoping for jigged bone or smooth wood to win. Will be thrilled with either.
