I’m in I don’t care what covers or shield I like them all but my preferred is Ironwood .
Is there going to be another thread to put a order in or I’m in post ?

All in fun, I'm gonna buy the knife. Use the heck out of it like I do all my knives. If it's a black wood I will use it and enjoy it. If Osage comes in and takes the poll I will still buy it and cherish it. This is a fun process and enjoy the rhetoric.
It has been great fun. I’m kidding about waiting. Like you, I will buy and enjoy the knife, no matter what the cover. If allowed, I’ll buy two. If I can afford it.:)

Some crazy iron wood in the Sun light.
Just got back from a walk, and getting some shopping in. It rained almost all the time I was out of the house, only stopping briefly a couple of times :( Nice to get out though

Thanks @Jack Black

Haha! Well played. You are looking good my friend. Are you by any chance related to the infamous Meako Stultus Cyrtae? There's an uncanny resemblance...
Yes indeed...an ancestor of mine....I wonder if anyone has translated the name stultus cyrtae...:D...

tmd_87 tmd_87 Wow, both threads at the same time ;)

The Orleans shield with desert Ironwood is too much.. change to the diamond shield for a more balanced cleaner look.

I'm not as good as waverave at Photoshop. Here's the best desert Ironwood with Orleans shield I could do. It should look pretty similar to this.

Uuurg! where do the batteries go in?:D

knifeswapper knifeswapper Please kill this Poll now. Originally to take place 3/7 - 3/11. Instead, started 3/8. It has included a full weekend. Please put it out of it's misery.

I wouldn't be opposed to closing this poll this afternoon. I'd like to see the shield poll stay open another day or 2 though. Shield type does matter depending on what wood is chosen.

But fellas, there was a huge swing of votes in the last 48 hours. Bloodwood went from 1st to 3rd and ironwood to 1st from 3rd. I mean, Kingwood doubled its votes in less than 12 hours! Imagine the possibilities! In all seriousness though, I'd rather we all be patient and let the numbers settle where they will at the end of the poll, especially while the numbers are as close as they are still.

 I got no problem either way.

Mike put out a schedule. His daughter's basketball game put a small glitch in the schedule as it well shoud have. Can't beat Father/Daughter time. But it only delayed things for a few hours.

Stick to the schedule.

Why can't Mike modify the schedule? Now you are asking him to change it again.

I will run the polls with the least amount of possible contention. This requires that the poll will not close before the latest published close date.

That is the current schedule - so changing it now would not be sticking to it; so since I will disappoint you either way I will take your advice and stick to the schedule. ;)

Interesting to see how the votes have tallied out since I've been away for the weekend. When I left, Blackwood and Bloodwood were neck and neck with Ironwood being a distant third. I return and Bloodwood is barely even a memory and Ironwood has had an epic surge...

(sigh....)

A couple of thoughts regarding Ironwood:

I am fond of Ironwood and have several pieces of it. It is a beautiful hard wood with the potential to have some very striking grain and varied character. Even when it darkens with use and age, it still maintains some level of chatoyance and the grain is still rather notable yet subtle.

That said... It is VERY popular right now (for good reason) so making the claim that Desert Ironwood will make our forum knife more special than Blackwood is rather laughable (and I say that with all due respect). I suspect there will be quite a number of folks who will be disappointed with their Ironwood knives. It is akin to Stag in its variety. Some will be happy, many will not.

When it comes to African Blackwood, showing me blocks of it and expecting me to be bored is very amusing. I am rather fond of black in general so where one might see only emptiness, I see untold depths. Plus... Black goes with everything (I learned that as a lad). African Blackwood is a stunning wood, a classic material that is used for many special things. It is far from "ordinary". Those who say that Ebony and the like are in regular use by GEC would be correct but how often do you get a special blackwood with a fancy shield? Not particularly often. I have a lot of Ebony knives with the dreaded hotdog shield...

So, my vote remains firmly with African Blackwood and though I will be happy with whatever the majority decides, I will certainly be left wondering at what could have been.

Also, those of you seeking to kill the vote before it has run its course, you must be a real peach when elections really matter.
