2019 GEC 92 Eureka Jack

Oh just dammit. After two 29s and a 77 Barlow, I just can't. And had no intention to, until seeing that jigging. It fits the shape of the knife so well.

GEC's aesthetic is really elevating into its own special thing. There is a modern attitude in how they treat these very traditional patterns and materials that rides right alongside of century-old designs, all without disrupting the themes or twisting the knives into something they shouldn't. They're in the here and now while still living in the same space as much older traditionals.

I agree that the jigging is outstanding on this first 92 of the run.

It appears that they did a large concave jigging Pattern and then followed it up with peach seed jigging. And that shield is just so dam good!

Of course this is the one I didn’t reserve and have to try and grab on the drop.

Pic from back spring angle...:)

That elderberry is going to become the new blood red. They seem to be able to get good saturation with this color, I keep wondering why they seems to be having consistency issues with actual blood red/red coloring.

My opinion, blood red saturation is on purpose. Hemlock Green (actually red) is a good example of GEC being able to produce an evenly saturated red. Blood red almost always has some pink...GEC is fairly consistent about that.

Interesting. I wonder why that is. I do like Hemlock Green and would agree regarding the good saturation. All the blood red that I had received up until the recent 85s were pretty decently saturated. It hasn't been until recently that I've noticed more pink and white showing up, including the recent 29s.

I always seem to end up with pink near the bolsters. Not sure why.. you would think that maybe it's part of the process to get the bright red, but if you look at GEC cranberry it's a bright red without any pink at the bolster... I think there's another.. I think the name is Indian paint brush or something like that. Anyway, for me it's all part of the appeal of GEC.

My Elderberry 77 (admittedly Camel Bone not bovine) is pink.

Doesn't keep it from getting carried, though.

Finally a peek at the oval shield...

No hotdog for you...drink Ovaltine! :p:D

This is the first blade well angle pic I think I've seen of this run. The way the scales are separated, I'm thinking that the back springs are in there - kinda loosely - awaiting the blade install step. I'm trying to see where the secondary back spring wraps around and would be visible extending past the end cap. Hopefully we'll get some more pics this coming week.

Hoping for the wrap around spring on the secondary. I'm guessing all of this run should have it, but I'd like to see it to be sure too. I really like that feature - looks cool and adds balance by having a bit more weight on that side.

Really happy I have a micarta coming. Everything about that knife is turning out to be my cup of tea... might need to get a couple...

If I can't get my hands on the Tools for Gents SFO when it drops I'll have a fresh 2019 #77 Yankee Barlow with African Blackwood at the ready for trade! ;)

I called that jigging , wavy peach seed jigged bone. My Charlie Waynorth #93 lambs foot and my three 2017 #48s have that same jigging. That jigging is the best GEC has to offer. I could go for that jigging on every bovine bone knife that GEC makes. My Orange camel bone "S" #43 came in light strawberry with no pink. I left it alone and love it better than orange. My first #12 aqua camel bone came in too light. I popped it 4/5 times with Navy blue leather dye and the dark aqua streaks shine through. My natural canvas micarta #93 has been popped 4/5 times with navy blue leather dye. I have a midnight blue canvas micarta #93 rams foot knife ,now. I still have blue coming off in my hand and I keep wiping it with synthetic , no petroleum lubricate . The natural canvas streaks want to come out. I love it , it should patina greatly some day. I love to play with and take chances with my knives. I love to grab a least favorite knife and get attached to it. The more you use them , the better they look.
