2019 Memorial Scout Knife GAW

Thanks to the generosity of @willintheweeds again this year I am going to get to add a special extra knife to this GAW.

This giveaway always brings out the generosity and bonhomie of the porch, but it doesn't bring out a lot of entrants. Please do enter. I enjoy the giving and sharing of the knives, and I enjoy being a part of the generosity of the porch. You don't need a profound reason to enter, all you need is to want a free knife.

I've been following this thread, but haven't entered yet, mainly because I've been thinking about who I would give a knife to if I won. There is a boy at my church whose dad is fighting cancer, and if his dad doesn't mind (I don't think he will) I'd like to give the knife to him. If he isn't able to take it, there is a young lady who is a student of mine who is into knives and even gave a knife to me as a gift this year. Neither of these kids would be getting their first knife though, so it doesn't fit the criteria in the OP. I can try and search out another choice, but if you are cool with the Boker Magnum going to a kid who already has a knife or more than one, I'll enter for the ones I named above.

You can also put me in for the Case knife (I know my boys will dig that one!).

Also, to sweeten the pot (and with your permission), I'll even add a case slimline trapper in brown jigged delrin that I scored from Mr. Knife's box o' knives giveaway over a year ago.

I am absolutely fine with you entering on those kids behalf (behalves?). I should probably change the wording. It is extra nice if it is a kids first knife, but I don't think it should be a requirement.

I'll mark you down as 4k, 5k, and 4a.

Giving this a little weekend bump. If you or anyone you know could use a good knife, feel free to enter.

This is the best I've seen in a long time. I am in recovery myself and have been for a long time, and believe me i didn't get it the first time but when I did I was blessed with my son (my avatar). The passing of your brother is tragic but at least you know he was clean. Thanks for this giveaway. I'm gonna enter below for my son.

I'm in.

I'm nominating my son because the way things are now I don't have the money for something like that for him. He deserves it cause hes the grestest thing to happen to me. Thanks for the GAW again.

I appreciate the chance to enter this. I'll enter on behalf of my son who just achieved his Eagle Rank. I'm pretty proud of that kid his Eagle project consisted reviewing 27,000 graves (yep I didn't accidentally add any extra zeros) in one of our local cemetaries and mapping out the graves of around 3000 veterans so that flags and wreaths can be placed on their graves at appropriate Holidays. He organized the project, ran it and spend hours and hours himself wandering the cemetary.

Great project.

Great gesture to remember your brother. With all the crazy things I’ve done in my youth. I could have easily been in his place in that wreck.

I’m in. Thanks for the chance.

I’m in for my son. Who is very scout like but not a member yet. Again thanks. Ed

I would like to be in this for my 8 year old grandson, he’s having a difficult time dealing with his parents going through a separation. My wife and I are the stability in his life at this time taking him to scouts, archery and sports. He is very interested in my knives and is always wanting to see them. I have a small box with his knives in it, some small SAK’s and a small Schrade Trapper but nothing the quality of the Case, I control the knives because he is so proud of them that I can see him wanting to show them off and with today’s society I don’t need him to get in trouble for it. Please put myself in also.
Chuck

Sorry for your loss. I think what your doing is great. Very cool.
I would like to enter at a chance for a really decent kid. His name is Colton and he is from a single parent home. I gave him a small, single blade folder about 2 yrs ago when he was seven and I was surprised to find out from his mother that he carries it daily when not at school. He’s ready for something a little better and I’m sure he would love this.
Thanks for the chance.

Well, I don’t know if changing my mind is allowed or not. If so, I’d like to enter for myself in the Adult knife GAW. This just adds to the competitiono_O

I’d also like to enter for the kids knife and if won would like it to go to Triton Triton for his son. That is an amazing and honorable project he did. Being a Veteran I am always appreciative of the support given by members of the community.

abbydaddy I grew up with a big brother just like you. When he went into the Navy I felt like I had lost my best friend and looked forward to when he came home on leave but after getting out he battled with alcoholism for years till a my friends farther took him to AA one night. He gave the program his best shot after hitting rock bottom and he succeed and went to collage for chemical engineering and found a lovely wife in the state he moved to for first his real job. I was looking forward to him having some kids but unfortunately colon cancer had other plans for him. I'm sorry for your loss but i'm sure your brother like mine made up for missing time when he became sober and although it may have been a short time I'm sure it was time well spent. It's GAW's and story's like these that make you and this board a special place. God Bless and good luck all.

Great tribute A-daddy :) I always tell people that our loved ones only physically leave the Earth but they are eternally present in our hearts and memories... your yearly tribute to your brother further reinforces that idea ;)

Per my lengthy "confession" that I wrote a few weeks ago in Carl's Lounge, I mentioned my battles with the bottle and that my five year "born again" date was earlier this month. I would be totally honored to carry that Case scout knife... the red bone is amazing, what a beauty! Great that Case made such a heart felt gesture too

I have slowly been getting my wife's nephew into knife collecting (aka accumulating) and he would be a perfect fit for that Boker :D

So I will play along... put me down for an entry for both :)

Im in on this one. I have a boy in mind . His mother is our of his life. His father has been in and out of jail. He was raised mostly by his grandmother who has been bringing him to our church for years. Right before Christmas his grandmother passed away. Right now his father has him (though he has not been reliable in the past). There are a lot more details that I would not put on a public forum. I'm pretty concerned about this kid, and whether his dad can finally mature enough to keep himself out of jail.
I can PM op more details if he would like to know more about the kids history/ family issues.
Kids name is Cody.
