2020 GEC #74 Mustang Thread

Man it feels like this is the kind of knife literally everyone is interested in. It seems strange to me they wouldn’t make this a big run.

I’m just hoping to get one example from these first three covers. I struck out on getting the drop on a beer and sausage from a dealer.

I had originally been booked to get the stag and ironwood, but my dealer called and told me numbers were down so i had to choose. I chose stag, and am really feeling the pain now from that decision. I know i will love the stag, but these are incredible. Really was a hard choice for me. Hopefully the stag looks awesome!
Don’t rule out trading with someone.

Isn’t this why they aren’t doing SFO’s? To focus on making a greater number of knives?

so far we haven’t seen that and it’s a huge disappointment.

Who said that? From what I understood it was so Bill Howard could make the knives he wanted to make. Nothing about increasing production numbers. Oh and another thing... what was it... oh yeah Covid.

won't be long now !!!

Dang, that one’s a real looker!

In the let’s talk GEC thread it was highly assumed from GEC response that they would limit cover options and SFO to increase production.

I think that was a lot of assumption here on the porch. I read from two different sources, that are much closer to GEC than I am, that Bill Howard wanted to make the knives he wanted to and that there was too many knives and too little time.

For what it's worth*, is it possible that these were all in the pipeline when that decision was made? Perhaps next year, as we see knives that were planned out after that SFO decision coming to the market, we'll start seeing bigger runs. The knives we're seeing now almost certainly are the product of materials they'd bought before then.

* I don't own a business, nor do I play a business owner on TV :D

The factory makes @110 knives per day when fully staffed. They are not making changes with sfo's, etc. to make more knives.

There are just as many aggravations with big runs as there are small runs. But, what is a small run? Times have been a bit different this year, as most know. So schedules have changed to fit the number of employees and resources that were delayed. But they just announced the Rattler and it looks to be a 2000pc run. That is nearly a full month production. So, is spending an entire month on one pattern not enough?

I scored a burlap so I am thankful. But it is very frustrating to hear about the small production numbers. I hope that changes soon.

(theoretically) OK, we are scheduling a new re-run of an old pattern - how many would you make total?

it’s a highly anticipated model. I don’t have a perfect number, but I would think it sold be more than 200 of each cover.
