2020 GEC Rendezvous - August 7th and 8th

I have been thinking about this a lot recently. It looks like we are going to be knee deep in an uptick come time. If I did not have an extremely high risk person in my household; I would surely still go. Which, even saying it out loud sounds a bit selfish. But going thru 2 airports twice; sitting on 4 planes with others; and then visiting for two days with masks on - does wear a bit of the luster off for me. I expect I will check required cancellation times and make a decision then - but my "daddy" hat says I will probably have to bow out as well.

Mike, that’s totally understandable. It’s certainly not worth putting your family at risk. Though if it happens and you don’t make it you’ll be missed.

For me it’s a relatively short 2 hour drive (whew, longer from my new place, thought it might be shorter), nearby to family. So I wouldn’t be exposing myself or others much more than a normal day (tbh, probably less because of my work).

But I don’t fault anyone for not going. To be honest, it’s selfish of me to expect it to be on considering the state of things.

I’m still undecided. My wife is having a surgery and should be recovering well before the Rendezvous. Hopefully a sister will be staying with her for a few days, so I will be able to drive up to Titusville.

I wonder if they'll still have it if Oil Festival gets cancelled.

The Titusville Chamber of Commerce officially cancelled the Oil Festival for 2020.

This would have been our 6th year in a row. We were still going, but I admit I was uneasy about it. I guess this actually makes my decision for me. We’ll certainly miss our friends we’ve come to know over the years. Don’t get me wrong, I love the knives, but we’ve become quite fond of some of our friends we have met there. Good Lord willing we’ll see y’all next year! :)

I’m not surprised, things are going that way in PA. But I’m sad. Would’ve been my 7th year.

Posted an article at the link in my signature in case anyone’s interested.

Sad news for all regulars who attend and for prospective newcomers :( I would never be able to get there as it involves long air travel from Europe to the US which I will never do- Ship would be OK but the expense  I don't suppose an R-V with having to wear masks would really have been enjoyable at all though, discussing knives and trying to have a drink or bite to eat with others while masked?o_O

This is a Yowbut . Would I like to go ???? Yow , but I really have no business going there this year with everything that is happening .

Saw it on GEC's website, just cancelled the room, Donna and I are pretty bummed.

I hope to find y'all and the missuses in the best of health at the next rendezvous. Take care of yourselves fellas and stay well!

We were looking forward to visiting with our friends that we have made over the last few years.
I think my wife and I have been to 7 or 8 rendezvous and have enjoyed each one.
After finding out about the cancellation, I decided that a new knife should help to cheer us up.
I ordered a #23 Trapper, Northfield, Redtail Jigged Bone, w/Bullet Shield.
This will be the folder that I will have in my pocket at the 2021 Rendezvous.
Next year will be here before we know it and we will appreciate it even more.
We wish everyone good health and happiness.

there are rumors of an impromptu rendezvous being put together, hope you and the family well!

Some of us did head up to Titusville for an unofficial rendezvous. After an early breakfast at Missy’s Arcade we hung out on the front porch that Saturday morning. Notice that the factory was closed, but...

Bill did come out and visit with us for a while.

Then we all went to the usual picnic spot for a few hours. It was nice to have Bill check out our knives and comment on his memories of making most of them. He really enjoyed my 1996 Queen-made NKCA knife. We ate good food. Gary Kifer sold some knives. We played corn hole. But mostly we just talked knives. Bill seemed to really enjoy himself I think he needed some appreciation. Randy Bell was busy with his laser etching machine. He was giving out free etchings of his Bootleg 2020 logo onto leather sheaths and for a few brave people directly onto their knives.

Three of the knives I picked up while we were there.
