2022 GEC #81 Coon Skinner

This only for the snakewood. The deluxe has ideal snakewood grain and coloration. The standard has less than ideal.
I wonder if GEC stated "standard" and "deluxe" on the tube, because I believe I've already seen more than one dealer use those definitions.

That is what I was thinking. The standard I ordered arrived and I was pleasantly surprised. The colors were steller, perhaps I just got a good one.

Best regards,

81s so far. The two on the far left are snakewood. You can see the difference between standard and deluxe.

What is the difference between the GEC 81 standard & deluxe? Thanks!
I concur, anyone have the cost difference between the two?
Seems like an odd move from GEC, I always enjoyed the luck of the draw.

It was $10- $30 difference depending on the dealer. In my opinion it was the correct decision to segregate the covers based on the grain quality. The uproar and complaining from this BF crew alone would have been ridiculous if they were selling plain snakewood for full rate.

I haven't been active in this thread because I thought I'd sit out this release. Ended up with this standard and am really pleased I bought it. At first I experienced the pile side blade getting in the way when closing the mark side:oops::oops::oops: to my relief I realized by my grip I was pushing the pile side blade into the path of the mark side blade:rolleyes: User error, when I changed my grip all is well with the knife:thumbsup:

Nice pull, fit n finish and nice grain in the sunlight. Overcast here today so the covers are a bit uneventful.

It is interesting that, with the two grades of Snakewood, there are now two Snakewood variants you need to have, for a complete collection. :)

That's a beauty!

Glad I wasn't the only one who didn't know how to close a knife! The first time it happened, I thought "Huh? This has 3/4 stops?" before I realized what I was doing.

Mine is pretty much perfect for slicing lunchbox apples in the morning. I've also been practicing wizard pencils. My kids think they're cool, but my wife can't figure out why she keeps finding mangled pencils around the house. They look like someone chewed on them.
