2022 GEC Liberty/Freedom #94/#49 Thread

Hey
Got one 49 but it doesn’t have any etching on the blade. Does this mean anything? No etching at all.

No Northfield unxld Etch

Did they just forget? I suppose I don’t mind it lol.
I got a 49 in the mail yesterday too. And I cam here looking and my 49 doesn't have a etch either lol.

I really like the 49 Blue Camels; they look like a really nice edc nife. Bummed I missed the drops on these. Now I'll have to go haunt the exchange for one.

I whiffed on the blue 49 as well. I came across it a bit late because I haven't been following things as closely lately, but man this one really caught my eye more than most in a while. I still thought I had a pretty good chance of snagging it, but alas, I missed out. Was looking forward to getting a nice fruit patina to compliment the blue covers too. Oh well, wasn't meant to be I guess. I still get to enjoy seeing them here

😄 I was thinking that the blue would be the one I would display and the red would be my user because I didn’t think the patina would look as good on blue as it’s going to on my red one. To each his own.😊👍

The flags were not my particular cup of tea, but this has been an interesting and memorable run. The blue 49 is my favorite, and has already had good pocket time. I like seeing new things from GEC, and hope there will be more this year. Anyone else expecting a white bone rendezvous version?

Just got my red 49 today. Anyone noticing weak action on theirs? Even after a good flush its not half as strong as my garnet 94.

My red 49 is a touch lighter in action, but it's not a huge difference. 94 is has a snappier feel. Maybe something to do with the spring angle?

I guess I should clarify that it's not like anemic, just noticeably weaker than the 94. Obviously preference of strength is subjective, but they just about nailed it for me on the 94s.

Took this one out of the tube and oiled it only to find this crack in the acrylic. No material is missing, and you can just barely feel it with a nail from one direction.
Anyone else have this happen or heard of this?

Received my Garnet 49 yesterday but was finally able to take some photos of it and really go over it .
It has the Northfield Etching on the blade , Blade is Centered , Do not feel any roughness in the jigged bone like some GECs recently , Blade Tip is not proud , No Blade Rap seen or felt , Backspring smooth with liners in open and closed positions , Blade Snap in opening & closing is fine , pulll is maybe 5 , Can easily pinch it open , Very slight Gap between liner and spring but I never carry water in the well anyhow , Color of the bone is fine except at a couple of the Transitions to the bolsters , Feels very sharp .
Edited to add : The shield appears to be sitting on Top of the Bone and NOT Set Into the bone .
Overall impression : Well satisfied with my Garnet 49 and am happy to add it to my meager Northfield collection .

My 49 & 94 had no issues even though one was a second I found nothing wrong with it. Sorry this happened to you but I'd return it.

Chuck, welcome to the frustration that is GEC. Currently they make runs of 4-600 and you can't find one, when ten years ago they made runs of 50 and they were available up to a year later. I'm not really sure how GEC survived that slow start, but they're a juggernaut now.

Anyone else notice how much beefier the brass liners are on these guys? Wonder what the reason may be if any reason at all. Or was it just cut from thicker material to start with.

Curiosity has me thinking out loud. I'll have to get a side by side pic later with another GEC model to illustrate what I mean. The 94/49 I have in particular seems pretty stout for it's size.
