2022 Lick Creek Barlow #14 thread

Thank you, Renato. :)

Mine can't follow it either, but that's what people want us to think. 🤣
I'm not upset by the little Fit n Finish issues on GEC knives, they don't bother me at all.
By the same token, they don't bother me on a Case knife either... but people really like to bash Case for it and give GEC a pass on it.
So, my assumption is, the more you pay for a knife, the more willing you are to overlook any slight defects... Logical, right?

There is a difference..... Case is a manufacturer that is borderline sloppy and routinely turns out a marginal product....... GEC is a manufacturer that general!y turns out a quality product and occasionally pulls a boner.....

live on both sides of the fence fellas, own both quality and quantity and enjoy the quantity of your quality. your grass will always be green

As interesting as the Wormy Chestnut covers are on the Lick Creek, I think the Goldenrod Sawcut might be my favorite from this run. It’s just a classic little Barlow.

The depth/texture of the sawcut is great, and I like the color. Pull is a bit light, same as the SFOs, but the snap is ok. F&F is all pretty good. The only real negative I can find on this one is the blade etch, which looks smudged/muddy. And of course I wish the bolster stamp was still filled in as black as they used to be. 🙄😁

That one looks like a winner to me. The blade etch is easily removable or you can cover that up with some patina.

Case builds different knives for different markets, yellow slimline trapper at $40 to a Bose/Case Lanny's Clip at $490. I've never received a Case knife that was so "sloppy" it needed to go back. Try and get a GEC for $40 or a GEC in premium steel, relieved liners, stainless liners and pivot bushing at any price...:)

Obviously your observations of currently manufactured products is different than mine.....

Oh, and I'm not comparing "Custom Shop" knives..... I'm talking about hardware store levels of knives.....

$40 slimline trapper IS a hardware store knife...where do you see GEC in hardware stores? Don Hansen of Sunfish forge carried a slimline trapper when he used to post here. I think he switched out for a Bose he traded one of his to Tony for.
