2022 New Models Scuttlebutt

Impressions:

* I see lots of really mediocre steel.
* They couldn't even get the information on their web page right.
* I am interested in the LT Spartan. Too bad the info is wrong and incomplete.
* I find it hard to believe that LT would release a signature fixed blade in D2 steel.
* I am interested in the S35 Drifter, but I expect it will be absurdly overpriced.
* I am interested in the Aus10a Verdict. I expect it to be absurdly overpriced.
* The Razorback looks familiar... but the steel isn't good.
* Someone at GSM thinks the world is desperate for more disposable knife sharpeners.

My conclusion? Cold Steel is finished as a high end production knife company. The Titanic has hit the iceberg gentlemen.

That machete was the dumbest move they could do. I would have understand if that wasn't the CS (aka leading bad-ass machetes manufacturer).

GSM guys ae fucking serious???

CS has a history of copying other classic designs, but what is the point of copying a Gerber machete? SMH

Yes, disappointing line up. My advice: make a list of all the models you want but don’t have. Then look at the list and cross out the knives that you can do without…purchase the ones left (that you’ve always wanted for a long time). My prediction: everything will be gone in about 2 yrs time (max). After that you’ll only be able to get stuff from flea bay, and it’ll be marked up tremendously. This forum will probably be defunct by then. Hope I’m wrong about all this but looks like it’s headed in that trajectory as others have stated.

+1,000,000! That is what I have been doing. Watching review videos over and over of models I have be interested in but passed up on. My wife is probably questioning my sanity.

The Leatherneck Bowie is the only thing that reminds me of the old CS.
That was the only new model that caught my eye too. D2 Steel is supposed to be quality material, wonder where it will be made? But it’s not a priority (got a Becker BK9) that’s one big mamajama, LOL!

We need to let it sink in that Cold Steel as we all knew it is gone now...

But there's plenty of good quality manufacturers though.
Yes , but ...I don't see any of them really filling the void left by the old school CS . :(

I can hope , but I don't expect it .

LCT just had a whole different mindset from the mainstream knife makers .:thumbsup::thumbsup:

Not to trying to rain on anyone's parade, but I think D2 is a poor choice for a larger fixed blade survival/soldier knife. It is more brittle than traditional steels and tends to chip or break under stress, especially in cold weather when you need it most. It's also hard to sharpen in the field compared to traditional steels. D2 on a folder or a shorter hunting knife works better where edge retention is more important than outright toughness. But on a larger survival knife, very hard and brittle steels like D2 are not good. Steels like AUS8, 154CM, 5160, 3V, INFI, and softer-tempered 1095 are much tougher. 4116, 420HC and Sandvik are also super tough and at least for survival blade use, I would actually prefer one of these lesser steels than D2. The old Leatherneck was made with 4116 and was nearly indestructible. The current D2 version, however, has been breaking on some soldiers and woodsman who were not doing insane things with it. If Cold Steel reverted to 4116 or better, AUS8, I would grab a Leatherneck in a heartbeat because I know I could beat it to death and it would just keep on going.

D2 is the flavor of the month, so I guess we will see some interesting Youtube videos once people are able to purchase these knives.

Oh, they also sell spelling mistakes:

"Kreigsnmesser Sword

The Kreigsmesser, or ā€œWar Knifeā€ is Cold Steel’sĀ® new variation on the popular Grosse Messer. It features a traditional Nagel or nail to.."

Its "Kriegsmesser" and "Großes Messer" - everything else just screams: I didn't do my homework and hope nobody else did...

Well, Cold Steel is unfortunately no longer among the living, I would even say, they officially have ceased to exist. Shame, really.

Sooo, when you click on the New Products link, it takes you to a landing page with all GSM brands. It looks like they are re-working the CS new products page. Perhaps they heard the backlash?
Maybe S&W and Gerber sued them? Or CRKT because of name Drifter?

Or they realized they're too expensive for your average Frost or Mtech customer, and existing CS customers won't buy this garbage?
