2022 New Models Scuttlebutt

D2 is the flavor of the month, so I guess we will see some interesting Youtube videos once people are able to purchase these knives.
the Chinese equivalent of d2 is a very common and easily sourced steel in China....im guessing this is the biggest reason we are seeing lots of d2 everything from Chinese made stuff.

don't know where this bigger leatherneck is being made now? regular and tanto leathernecks, recent ones anyways, used to be made in Taiwan.

could also be cause the current versions are in d2 this bigger version is just using the same steel. although pretty sure those aren't in the Chinese equivalent d2..rather a German steel version of d2. I could be wrong though.

id prefer it in a steel with much better toughness.....myself.

I got over d2 when benchmade made everything in d2 back in the 2010s. I wasn't a big fan then and less so now. it is an okay cutlery steel though....just not a favorite of mine.

The 5 stages of grief, featuring Cold Steel:

1. Denial - What? That's all for 2022? There has to be more!
2. Anger - WTF is GSM thinking?! This is gas station trash!
3. Bargaining - Lemme buy up all the old Cold Steel I can!
4. Depression - I'm done with Cold Steel
5. Acceptance - Hrmm, what are other brands selling this year?

Sorry, could not help myself. It is me in the last 24 hours ;)

I understand your frustration, but look at it this way. CS had a good run and provided everyone with very unique, overall good quality knives at a fair price. I do believe there won’t be another knife brand like CS for a long time, maybe never? As for me, I’ll be scooping up at least one more CS knife…and if that’s it for me, so be it. Enjoy what you have👍

Tried to go to look at the new products, but kept getting rerouted to the homepage despite trying browsers and different devices. But the video I saw of the products being offered has me leary of the future of Cold Steel. The prices on some of the newer knives already had me worried about the route they are going. Though glad I bought a lot of the knives I liked in the past with the way GSM is doing things.

I just uploaded a PDF print of the 2022 catalog (link above). I hope this is not against the forum rules...

I agree. Most people tend to think of famous music, books or films as the reason why the last 50 years of the 20th Century was special. The reality is that the same creativity that produced all of the music and films also produced amazingly unique products, clothing, styles, technology, etc. Heck, just look at all the old motel signs created between the 1940s and 1970s. They are really cool and unique. Lynn Thompson came from that era and just like the Beatles and the Rolling Stones did with their genre, Thompson re-invented his genre. It was a unique and special time to be alive and will never be replicated again. I suspect people in the future will look back at this period and marvel at it.

That was the only new model that caught my eye too. D2 Steel is supposed to be quality material, wonder where it will be made? But it’s not a priority (got a Becker BK9) that’s one big mamajama, LOL!

D2 is fine if it is priced appropriately. Cold Steel selected D2 because it is cheap and apparently available. It is also a huge step up from 4034, so that's something I guess.

Note, the above assumes that they are using real D2 and not some "Chinese Equivalent" garbage. This later is exactly what I expect.

So, for the last couple of days, the new products link is back to showing 2021 products. Is someplace else to check out 2022 stuff?

If I were a betting man, I would bet "blood groove" gets edited out in the revised descriptions.

😴If #5 was really great , I wouldn't be stuck in #2 💩

Take a look at some of the old catalogs and flyers available on the CS website. Steels were ranked for edge retention, corrosion resistance, strength, and ease of resharpening, for example Only recently has there been a lot of published info of this type for consumers to reference. Lynn didn't just introduce knife torture testing, he gave us much useful information for selecting a knife.
