Mine are definitely on the dark side, which I really like. :D

I had actually planned on making some new covers (or possibly having some made) for this knife because I'm not typically a fan of GEC's jigging, but after receiving it... I don't think I can do that, lol. I'm REALLY digging the covers!

That’s so interesting. Is there a different jigging that you like better? Do you have an example?

That’s cool. I think they knocked it out of the park. I’ve always been a fan of either jigged scales or saw cut for user knives.

After all the roaring n ranting..over the years..
There seems to be two standout contenders for MVP scales..this colour bone or Ebony/ Blackwood.
View attachment 2377534...?...So ....2024 ?...if you have the courage...are you able to envisage...........an acryilic?
Noòoooo...I loathe acrylics....Me too...there are some very ordinary modern acrylics....almost as many as olden day cellulose..with its glittering galaxy of colour....obviously without the decomposition hassle...
There is no doubt that modern day acrylic..whilst maybe accused of being non traditional...are equally as beautiful and 110% more durable than cel...Could be a go for 2024...Popularity seems to dictate the hunger for Porch knives.....So if 24 is embryonic...how about something so disgusting ...so tasteless...None but the dedicated would even at look at it without vomiting....."Too much Beer and Hotdog" Acrylic..with red and yellow and green
I KNOW...it sounds a bit yuk...but theres no denying ...
The tradition..
The colours....
The lack of appeal for flipsters...
People this is the future. This is where tradition meets future.
Cheers.

So you're saying it's finally time for the PunchNut in Glitter Gold acrylic?

meako meako I hear ya, but let’s consider a lambfoot barlow in either 86/77/15 size.

Too popular? Too much flipper interest.

To combat that we’ll do a run bigger than Remington!

Instead of making very little of an undesirable knife, we’ll do supply side manipulation and have an amazing knife.
My idea is a mystery knife! We order it sight unseen and pick a day with historical porch significance when we all open it. Whether it’s amazing or ridiculous we know who the flippers are because they are selling it “unopened.” 🤷🏼‍♂️

I like your thinking...
Drown the flippers.
But do we not also risk losing our identity? It's a puzzler for sure.
Lets put our flipper hats on for a minute....what makes bf porch knives a target for floppers.?
*Pricing and the obscene amount of resale profit to be made
*Extreme lack of courtesy .
* Limited release numbers.
* Popularity surge for GEC.
Just to name few.

So do we abandon GEC? Most of the porch knives I have are GEC..They are part of the tradition. That would be harsh ..but imagine a run of 600 Case knives...everyone who wants one gets one so they wouldn't be so flippable...maybe?
The biggest problem ironically comes from the small size of this community. The annual task of administering it is huge and has a toll on the one or two individual members who take it on...As much as I loved the polls I'm personally just as keen for the venture to be nominated by the person who is prepared realistically to do the work.
For me its more about the community than knife.
There will always be flippers circling the boat like starving Skuas....simply because they have no honour...
But if we are to continue the tradition its likely we will do so with barnacles attached.
Cheers and apologies (Ive been watching The Terror..and you know how much I love the seafaring theme)
Meanwhile here are the Porch Warnies..20231105_090404.jpg

I tend to find the majority of GEC jigging to be too... I don't know... Uniform I suppose? Even on their more randomly jigged patterns.

When it comes to jigging on production knives I personally don't think anyone tops Case.

I see what you mean now. That is much deeper more “random pattern” type jigging.

That’s a nice looking modern traditional..can I ask who makes that and what covers are those?

meako meako yeah it's a lot of work, but I was thinking of how the Remington knives stayed on the shelf for a while and became impossible for flippers. Sort of leans into the problem with supply-side pressure.

Still prefer a GEC made option for the forum knife over a case or viper made.

I am a pretty vocal critic of GEC's jigging. For as secretive as they are about their processes, the bulk of their results aren't anything to write home about. Case definitely does a better job. I just wish they would stop using so many garish dyes - just keep it old school. That Swayback is a superb example.

Case jigged chestnut bone is hard to beat.
